You hear alot about racism in medicine. And what my moms went through these past 2 months was an example of that. She was a diabetic, got a bruise on her foot last month. Went to emergency, to foot doctors and they found "nothing wrong". She was in alot of pain and could barely walk. 2 weeks ago, we finally found a specialist who stated she needed her veins cleaned out in her foot. The appointment was suppose to be next week. Yesterday, she had a doctor's appointment for her diabetes and they found out she had an infection. They sent her to the hospital and last night they found out she had gangrene. They scheduled surgery for today but her gangrene was spreading fast. She lost so much weight these past years so she was only 85 pounds. She really couldn't put much of a fight. They did surgery and she got through it. Suddenly, her blood pressure went too low. They tried to revive her but couldn't.

It was rough seeing her body laying there in the hospital bed but I knew I had to comes to terms with it. To the woman who gave birth to me. It looked like she was sleep. My family of course is upset because they knew it could have been prevented. But these "systems" don't care about Black people. I know we're gonna sue but I don't really care right now. Not gonna bring her back. The only bright side is she's not suffering anymore. It's rough seeing the woman who raised you being in pain and suffering everyday. As a Christian, I know where she is at so I'm comforted by that. But I'm still in disbelief. She was a great woman. Sense of humor wise, she was like a female Fred Sanford. I love to watch her crack on people on TV.

Unfortunately, now I gotta deal with people who don't know what to say. So I have to deal with "If it's anything I can do don't hesitate to ask". "Call me you're sad". a billion times. But RIP mama.
I’m sorry for your loss.

Sorry for you loss brother. Find comfort that she knows you was there to the end. That’s all parents can ask for in the end. Have you babies ride and hold you down to the end.

Honestly, man. I don't think it's so much that the system is racist as much as it is that the healthcare system sucks.

The waits for specialists are so long that many people die or come close to it just waiting.

If you go to the wrong hospital they won't see anything wrong, you gotta know which ones are the good ones if you're gonna go the ER route.

And, you also gotta take the initiative in your own health. My dad is down bad rn because he's also diabetic but not 100% on top of his treatments.

It's a lot of things, and it all sucks. Wish we had a better system and wish y'all luck on the lawsuit. That doesn't sound like a good case to me, though.

And of course, RIP to your mom.
