Yeah, I mean -- the real issue is that he's not good enough to lift this team to any useful height (not that many single players would be with this roster) -- and he's too good for this team to land a top 5 pick with.
A couple things:
- He's shooting 23% from 3. And 12% in January. Which is abysmal in any era, and is unforgivable in the current NBA.
- He's been very very bad at the end of games, blowing layups, taking bad shots, and turning the ball over.
- He's a horrendous defender. Atrocious. And there is no reason to believe that will get better.
I don't have a real beef with him. I saw this move as a roster reset, and essentially, a tryout. There is no reason he should fit into their longterm plans.
He's not even a top 15 guard, and this is his best season in three years. Ultimately, the Noah deal is worse than the trade/1 year deal on rose. But anybody who wants him in their longterm plans, when you're a rebuilding team, is crazy.
He jymore. He's not explosive enough to dominate without a jumper, like he used to be...
and his jumper has gotten WORSE. The form has shifted, he hangs in the air too long before letting it go, he throws it right at the hoop. There's just a lot of work that needs to be done to get him back to being a near-average shooter.
I have always rooted for Rose. I still like watching him attack, because he's relentless, and even with diminished speed/explosion, he has incredible change of pace. But he is not a player you can build on.
There is no reason to believe he'll stay healthy, and no reason to believe he'll get much better than this.
No shame in that,
but he has to basically take on a Jeremy Lin role for somebody, and he's gonna want too much money. I'd love to see him go to a good team, where there is a structure for him, and he can adjust to his new reality/role. He probably can't play for the spurs/warriors due to his shortcomings... but, I dunno -- Go play for Doc with the Clips or something.
