DAMN
It has a good blend of radio songs and deep cuts, was highly introspective, had a pretty unique concept to it, and explored a lot of depth into Kendrick's mindset and outlook on life. I still rank GKMC and TPAB higher but DAMN is no miss by any means. Honestly, Humble being such a mid hit made a lot of people write off the album before listening to the whole thing.
Carter 4
This is a weird take on my part because I'm not even a fan of this album but I think this album getting trashed and panned while C3 got praised and acclaimed is BS and an obvious sign of Wayne fatigue which lead to actual criticism that C3 managed to escape. Neither C3 or C4 are high quality records but there is not much of a quality gap between the 2. Maybe C4 isn't as creative on average but many of the criticisms that apply to C4 also applied to C3 as well. When I see people making out C4 to be a drastic decline from C3, I can't really see where they're coming from cause they have so much in common compared to the other Carters.
I Am
I think I Am coming out on the same year as Nastradamus caused some people to lump both albums together in terms of quality and the OG double album getting scrapped played a role too. But I Am is very far from a bad project. It has incredible songs like Nas Is Like, Undying Love, NYSOM 2, Favor For A Favor, etc. Definitely not as good as Illmatic/IWW/Stillmatic but a very solid album overall.
