Oh boy. I’m on here late as hell so I get to work backwards in this thread to gauge reactions. I already saw how folks on X are feeling

First listen I like I like the album. Didn’t think Preemo had the hottest beats but I get the minimalist “ode to Hip Hop” feel and sound him and Nas were going for. I do kinda agree with those saying the second half is the strongest. Almost like we heard some of the type of beats we expected to hear, just wish there was more of that

Very solid 4 maybe 4.5 but I gotta run it back a couple more times. All the “Nas needs Hit-Boy back” chatter tho :comeon: Is that more from newer Nas fans?

I've been listening to Nas since 96 and Hit gave Nas some heat over the course of their run

A 2026 Illmatic slate of producers for me would be Hit & Alc on top of Tip, Preem, Large & Pete

I need Preem & Hit to work on beats together :wow:

Facts.

Nobody that listened to Nas before '99 wants another Hit Boy album. HAHA! Only people I see even bringing his name up, are weirdos who seem to have just started listening to Nas in the past few years.

Enjoyed the album, can’t wait listen again on the way back home.

:wow:
… But the most enjoyable thing has been watching half the booth’s head cannon get obliterated in real time. “It’s gonna sound like tHiSsSuhh…” “I know this kind of song is gon be in it…”

The only thing that could have broken more spirits is if there was Dr. Knockboot pt. 2 or a hidden swizz beats produced song that sounded just like summer on smash.

I'm having a hard time getting myself excited for this NaS & DJ Premier album because it's something I wanted 20-25 years ago (weird being old enough to say that). I'm scared to cut it on because I feel like this album is going to be musical equivalent of bagging your high school crush after she got fat and had three kids.
thats this album to a T

Off first couple listens Nas is spitting at a high level (KD3 level raps) but I’m not feeling the production at all. I shouldn’t be surprised because Premier has been washed for years.

Maybe it’ll grow on me though

The neverending cycle of yearning/hating on Nas production choices is undefeated lol

Hated Trackmasters then wanted them back, hated Salaam Remi n'em, wanted them back, now they miss Hitboy after 6 albums haha

I don't know what happened around Ownerz that made DJ Premier decide to ditch hi-hats on like half his beats from that point forward.

Premo one of my favorite producers ever but his commitment to being dusty and stuck in 1998 is what holds his music back. Like how can the same man that has the capacity to make such beautiful beats and soulful sampling want to be stuck in a fixation with grimy shyt for 30 years. I used to listen to his Sirius xm show and had to tune that shyt off, I don’t want to hear 3 hours of Vinnie Paz and Elzi, scaring the hoes music
