Fam u was hypin the fukk out of the album when it dropped. And it wasn’t only the first day too. It was like for a good week. U was all over the thread. Opinions change I guess but u can’t come in the thread wondering why people think the shyt is dope when u urself was one of those people.
The shyt wasn't fire at all, or even that good period, imo. I thought it was dope, same as I did with Nastradamus and I Am (2 other light ass albums) before my stanning bias and excitement subsided. I don't need to explain tho, the album is light to me, I never listen to that shyt, if you think it's fire then thinks its fire, there's nothing to argue or debate about. "Life is Good" is a dope album, imo, still is, I just listened to it again Monday....some people thought that was light, it's all subjective.

No it's not a reasonable take..spare me
Any real Nas fan knows he's the only artist people do this stupid shyt with. ONLY ONE

It's basically people setting themselves up to be disappointed.

What other artist of Nas caliber are people so brazen giving directions to....it doesn't happen

Everybody has their own idea of the type of artist they want Nas to be. And they're beholden to that

Never mind at this point he's a veteran's VETERAN

Eminem to a certain degree, cats want his shyt sounding a certain way too.

One thing I will say is Nas gets this microscope and criticism I see NO other artist get. For instance. Pusha T, Benny or Westside Gunn could’ve gotten that Highly Favored beat off Lost Tapes 2 and people would’ve treated it like the greatest shyt ever. Nas gets it and people don’t blink an eye. Yet act like it’s HIS fault. Nas coulda took the whole Bandana album production and still got criticized for the production. nikka rapped over the Dilla shyt and got shytted on and criticized for that. I just don’t see other legends get this kind of microscope. And it’s been this way since 1996(with critics anyway).

When did he get criticized? That was a cold combo, I wish he would've made the session dilla was at with busta and big. It could've created a relationship where they worked together from then on out.

Also people have to realize this will be Nas’s FIRST album that drops exclusively via Mass Appeal and not Def Jam. Nasir and LT2 were Def Jam projects. I’m quite SURE Nas wants to set up the next phase of his career on his OWN label in the best way possible, which would be releasing a fire album.

of course my G. you know what i'm finna let them negative nancys live because nas is about to drop that crack for the streets trust me. it's almost like they want his shyt to be wack lol. for what reason i have no idea. the rapper's rapper, the lyricist's lyricist, the artist's artist

Exactly. Eminem gets it way worse. Some people think Eminem hasn’t dropped a good album since 2000. They say his beats are trash, his songs are corny, his lyrics are still immature/no growth etc.

So expecting/hoping the “goat” make a dope album is a issue now:mjlol:

I swear Nas stans are nuts
Nas is the only rapper who has to make damn near perfection for one sect of his fans/hip hop fans in general to be satisfied (I'm kinda on that side, not fully tho)...

Then on the flip, he is handled with the softest, most delicate kid gloves ever by another side of his fandom/standom who can't even admit that his clear misses are misses, lol. That's why on here it's like night and day with the bickering, some say no matter what he does no one will give his shyt its proper respect because it aint Illmatic...then others say no matter what he does no one will give his shyt its proper beating and panning because it's Nas.

Nasir was a letdown and LT2 despite Stan opinion was no more than a 3 mic album.

However Life is Good I consider a 4 mic album...if we get something on that level I will be happy.

Always anticipate new Nas no matter what came before it
you can call it stan opinions but then when Jigga drop a 3 mic mid album mixed like ass with another emcee the music industry and fans are scared to call it mid. the whole point is that for better or worse illmatic made Nas forever have to deal with the harshest critics in this whole culture. His music is picked over with a fine tooth comb by critics while other peers like Jay or Ye (people in that light not calbre per se) can skate with mid albums like Ye and the Jay Elect collabo...

All these dudes have mid shyt but not all of em have the same level and passion of critical tear downs.

So what kind of expectations jay have when his albums drop?

nas is not in the same realm when it comes to this. This type of expectation is for everyone that their guy a GOAT. But it seem Nas stanbase are the only ones that have issue with these expectations

I agree on both sides as well and I’m a huge Nas fan.

I think Nas sometimes gets too much sh1t for his albums

his first two were classic imo and Stillmatic and LIG were damn good.

All the greats even Jay-z have 2/3 classics at most so the idea Nas has put out a lot more subpar music and way less classics then other greats is overblown imo

At the same time his ear for beats is very poor at times and for an all time great he does have way too many mediocre To halfway decent albums for someone with his talent.

he’s stated he does the weak beats purposely because he doesn’t want his lyrics overshadowed if that’s the case it’s mistake

it’s still MUSIC and about entertainment I don’t care how great the lyrics are if the beat is trash

Jay-z and Nas are definitely in the same weight class, for most people they can't even say one without saying the other when talking about the greats...but when it comes to reverence and adoration and all that, Nas is probably the most adored rapper ever by his fan base (maybe 2pac?). I literally saw someone get smacked and sent home from the ball court for saying something slick about Nas back in the day, lol. shyt is different with people who fukk with Nas...so I get what you're saying, some of his fan base handle him with kid gloves. I'm sure not all of us do tho, I know I don't.
