Nas has thee absolute worst and best fan base at the same time. The last couple pages of this thread has given me a damn headache like WTF is dudes on ? Nas is held to the most ridiculous standard of any rapper ever. It’s complete bullshyt. Most other greats only have to release a fire verse or song to receive their flowers, if Nas doesn’t release a 10/10 album with no skips, it’s a disappointment.

I agree but it’s been a long time since nas managed to make an album that didn’t have something skippable.... for me. since Lost Tapes he hasn’t released something completely solid and even that had everybody’s crazy.

Some people love the songs I skip though and that’s what makes Nas who he is. His albums have been uneven for YEARS. But he always tries to do something interesting and when he succeeds it’s WAY better than most, but people focus on their version of perfection instead of just being happy they got some dope songs.

It’s not unreasonable to want a perfect album from him bc he sets the bar, but expecting one over and over and then being let down is just dumb at this point.

One thing I will say is Nas gets this microscope and criticism I see NO other artist get. For instance. Pusha T, Benny or Westside Gunn could’ve gotten that Highly Favored beat off Lost Tapes 2 and people would’ve treated it like the greatest shyt ever. Nas gets it and people don’t blink an eye. Yet act like it’s HIS fault. Nas coulda took the whole Bandana album production and still got criticized for the production. nikka rapped over the Dilla shyt and got shytted on and criticized for that. I just don’t see other legends get this kind of microscope. And it’s been this way since 1996(with critics anyway).

Nas is the only rapper who has to make damn near perfection for one sect of his fans/hip hop fans in general to be satisfied (I'm kinda on that side, not fully tho)...

Then on the flip, he is handled with the softest, most delicate kid gloves ever by another side of his fandom/standom who can't even admit that his clear misses are misses, lol. That's why on here it's like night and day with the bickering, some say no matter what he does no one will give his shyt its proper respect because it aint Illmatic...then others say no matter what he does no one will give his shyt its proper beating and panning because it's Nas.
This is facts. It’s a weird mixture of impossible standards and no standards. I’m a fan but I’m not a stan for anyone. I don’t grade on a curve, I won’t give someone rap AOTY by default just because they’re my favorite artist etc.

Hov gets to work with all types of producers without fans demanding he call Ski Beatz or Premo. I don’t care who the producer is: give Nas hard, up tempo drums and you’ll get something worth listening to.

I mean there is a loyal fandom here that rides for him hard but I think we mostly admit when he misses. No one besides maybe one or two people was praising Jarreau...the rest of us were like "Uhhhh what?".

Then when his core fans give him two thumbs down, hope he doesn't cry and go back into obscurity.
Nas is a real artist with 30 yrs & counting in the game, that has sold way over 30 million records, still performs to sold out tours and makes music for the love it at this stage in his career Is NOT crying over people thumbing his music down & he damn sure ain’t going into obscurity over it. Nas is more concerned with fans who ENJOYS HIS JOURNEY!

Eminem to a certain degree, cats want his shyt sounding a certain way too.

Exactly. Eminem gets it way worse. Some people think Eminem hasn’t dropped a good album since 2000. They say his beats are trash, his songs are corny, his lyrics are still immature/no growth etc.

People go overboard with criticizing Eminem sometimes, but the second half of his career has been very inconsistent. He went too far with Revival and snapped back to reality (:troll:) with Kamikaze and Music to Be Murdered By, because people stopped accepting what he was putting out and held his feet to the fire.

I know the criticism bothers him a lot, but as long as the whip keeps getting cracked on him, he's never going to release another Revival.
