Am I wrong for thinking that there should be 2 rap/hip hop categories?

Like one for the radio friendly accessible music that deserves praise (pop smoke, lil baby, Roddy rich etc,) then the traditional rapping albums like these listed above.

Because this list is a great rappers list, but doesn’t actually show the real landscape of hip hop right now. but overall solid list

mines would be:
Lil Baby
Nas
Freddie
Pop Smoke
Roddy Ricch
Royce (if I could make it 6 lol)

Westside Gunn shoulda got a nomination just so he could have a reason to be at the ceremony.

At first I woulda said this was stupid but I already see they changed one of the categories from rap/sung to melodic. I could see them doing this with rap where they have a Best Rap Album and then a Best Melodic Rap album. They already do this with R&B. They split that into 3 (Best Traditional R&B, Best R&B and Best Urban Progressive-- they changed that title too).

the youngest dude in the Best Rap Album category is 35, and the rest are in their 40s.
As it should be too. I'm open minded to the young cats but the elder statesmen are really running the game right now; they aren't just recycling material either. There's a ton of creativity from the older heads right now.

I'm guessing it's just a joke about him being at the ceremony, but if Conway's King to God and Benny's Burden of Proof >>> anything WSG dropped this year.

Edit: Pray for Paris was dope, but the other 2 projects WSG dropped are 2 of his worst.

Thats excellent. Its high time that the “Rap is a young man’s game” bullshyt be put to rest. I want Nas and Jay getting award nominations in their 70’s just like a Bob Dylan or Herbie Hancock

This...

All the young dudes have zero creativity.. no concepts.. nothing

They are single driven artists and should be treated as such. Its categories for their singles.. they good

Speaking of Benny this bodes REALLY well for him in 2022 because that's when Burden of Proof can be nominated.

and yes, I could see Westside with a ski mask on and a hoodie with a picture of Hitler holding a Grammy scaring everyone on the red carpet.
