He should.

I can't find him ever performing heat like "N.Y State of Mind Pt. 2" live on YouTube at all :martin:
Nas probably forgot he made a part 2. He likely hasn’t recited a line from that song since 1999 :heh:

It’s also a damn shame IWW didn’t get any 20 year anniversary love. I have a feeling Stillmatic will after next year tho

Illmatic did not shift or takeover shyt
Man you can't tell New Yorkers that ...its their Bible....where I'm from NOBODY gave two shyts about that album at the time and it certainly didn't influence Texas, the West Coast, or the South in general.... It's been time to put that album to bed

Illmatic is arguably the goat hip hop album.. Not just another classic

It comes with the territory...

Illmatic is likely the greatest hip hop album. To say it overshadows everything else in his catalogue is no disrespect :ehh:

I understand what Nas is saying but I kinda hate that he said it. Illmatic FOREVER fukk you Nas!!! It is his best work and the foundation of the respect he gets in hip hop. I know IWW is a great album but it is not a classic. The Coli is really the only place where I have seen people refer to it as a classic.

Yeah Illmatic is 25 years old but so what? Age means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to me when it comes to great music.

We gonna stop celebrating Thriller? We gonna stop celebrating What's Going On? No.

I feel what he’s saying. If I went to a Nas show I would want to hear more songs off of Stillmatic and It Was Written than Illmatic.

:yeshrug:
He wouldn’t remember the lyrics to those songs:francis:

Just imagine how dudes like Slick Rick and Rakim gotta feel :manny:

rakim has 2 or 3 albums that get celebrated.

slick rick kinda had a separate legacy before he went solo, as part of the get fresh crew.

Idk why it’s the only thing people care about when it comes to his career:yeshrug:

theres been pushes to overhype the legacies of "it was written" and …….gasp...…..Belly.

Nas' Illmatic was a complete shift in the quality of Hip-Hop. It set a brand new bar that most artists even with their best effort could not dream of getting close to. And looking back over the decades since.. Nas can count himself with those artists who could not ever reach that bar.

Yes, he had some great songs since - Ether being one that comes to mind as one of the harshest disses of all time and many more great SONGS - BUT he has only 1 album that took our culture and music as a whole to a totally different level and it's: Illmatic. And I was a huge west coast Hip-Hop fan at the time of the release, but NOBODY not a single listener could deny the genius of Illmatic. He simply never had that hunger again.

I'm just going to go ahead and assume what you wrote is sarcasm breh

EDIT: IWW was fire. But there are many fire albums. Some people would say French Montana's first album was fire. Or a random Rick Ross album is fire. But CLASSIC? Nah. Illmatic is a classic. Doggystyle is a classic. The Chronic. All Eyez On Me. Enter The 36 Chambers. Ready To Die. Reasonable Doubt. I'd even go so far as to say Get Rich Or Die Tryin' is a classic, but the least classic of this list. IWW is not any of those albums brehs, whether this hurts your feelings or not - it is what it is. Nobody can say IWW is equal to The Chronic or Enter The 36 Chambers, ever.

Let's never mention GRODT and IWW in the same sentence. Shameful.

Its never going away. Its better that Nas makes his peace with that album constantly being brought up than expecting anything different.

That being said, It Was Written is also a special album that deserves as much praise.

I agree with him. IWW didn’t get the celebration it deserves because c*nts are too focused on Illmatic. I love that album too but it’s had its time to shine. It got 10 year anniversary and now for at least the last 5-7 years it’s been the lead up to 20 and then 20 and it’s been the 20/25 celebration ever since. Constant touring, performing, the orchestral version, the documentary. there’s nothing left to milk from Illmatic.
Exactly....actually illmatic has become an easy go to for fake culture vultures to claim love for and get a pass. I love illmatic but IWW is just as good but has to live in the shadow because of fake purists :stopitslime:
