Everybody could have been better. It's a given.

Yeah, that's a fact, but you gotta admit Nas dropped the ball more than a couple times in his career

Nas is by far one of my favorite rappers to listen to, but I find myself revisiting Nas songs way more than I revisit Nas albums

Actually, Jay and Em's disocgraphy is criticized alot on rap forums, and raekwons disocg needs more criticism.

Streets Disciple, Nastradamous, Hip Hop is Dead?!??!?!

Obviously thats retarted, I put IWW and illmatic almost on level playing fields with IWW getting an edge on occasions tbh in certain aspects.
Hip Hop Is Dead is a good album...

Nikkas want every album to be critically acclaimed. Nas discography is very good every artist has slip ups.

I Am and Nastrsdamus represented a time in hip hop were fakeness began to creep in...pop culture had gravitated toward hip hop and commercial appeal was almost a must and keeping it was a priority. Even though Ruff ryders, CM and rocafella had a hold on hip hop each was still wrapped in a layer of commercialism at levels previously never seen. So for artist like nas they had to straddle this line very carefully. The label has demands for the artist, nas is trying to figure what's hot but also authentic ....u can hear the confusion in those albums. Nas was trying to push the brave hearts imo to basically reintroduce himself after those subpar albums. The beef wit J really saved nas, because it gave him the artistic freedom to go back to what he does...real hip hop....so we get stillmatic and Gods Son(lost tapes was just getting the audience ready). Had J of never said anything at all he'd be the victor by a long shot....but he charged nas battery(as only a real friend and peer could do):ahh:...anyway, I simply discount those albums to hip hop losing its way...after missy Elliot's hotboy remix, it was clear he was trying to find a sound that grabbed the MTV massive audience....but it's hard to be what you aren't.

I think nas has at least 3-4 slip ups. And for a GOAT his level it shouldnt be like that. He seriously has one of the worst dsicographies among top tier GOAT contenders at his talent and level.

IMO, I can live with everything Nas did. Nastradmus went plat so you still can't really argue with that, although subpar from the previous 3. I believe that I was probably most unhappy, overall, with the God's son and Street's Disciple work all because of the beats... with SD being my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, the lyrics are all always on point. I just was not happy with the beats on those two albums. HHID was much better beat wise that those two.

Nah nas gets massive shyt for his discography even some of his fans claim he has only 1 good album

Em & jay discographies definitely gets criticized alot but they never had to live up to no particular albums or specific content

Nastradamus is dope imo the "you owe me" song overshadows the album & made nikkas act like he tried to go pop on that joint but it was some really dope cuts on that album

Streets disciple is definitely mediocre but he definitely had some hard cuts on there to

And like i said its still plenty of people even nas fans that will never fully appreciate it was written

Illmatic is just too classic & is basically a gift & a curse to nas's career

Especially because it wasnt a commercially successful album

Very true.

Even if you look at the top 5 disocgraphies OAT (in my opinion, in no order):
The roots
Scarface
GFK
Common
MF DOOM

I dont think any of them can match nas's high's (illmatic).
I'd take Nas' discography over all 5.
Although looking at your top 5 I can see you value consistency. The Roots and Com had their fair share of low points though.
