I Saw an interview where it was along the lines that when Elijah died, Wallace was to be the one to "graduate" blacks to Orthodox islam (in which he did). From what I gathered the NOI's sole purpose was to recondition the destroyed black people of America, and from that reconditioning it would allow blacks to be self sufficient and "human" as life in America greatly destroyed black people. The thing is that didnt come from Elijahs mouth but more so a minister close to Elijah and Wallace. Thats why when Elijah died the NOI died, everything after Elijah was essentially a splinter group, even the NOI led by Farrakhan today.
At the end of the day its hard to know the true inner workings and politics of the NOI during Elijah since we were not around, and all we can go off are 2nd hand accounts. That said though all of the post Elijah splinter groups are essentially peons compared to the NOI under elijah. Remember Elijah said after him there will be no other messenger to the Black Americans, which is why the argument was made that it was Wallace job to lead the reformed Blacks to Sunni Islam more so continuing the NOI as it was taught under Elijah.

The frequency with which otherwise rational people abandon logic and follow doctrines written by largely illiterate goat fukkers with no concept of how the world works is rather staggering.
I guess.. one convenient argument for organized religion is that you can freely twist and manipulate written scripture as you please, ripping it out of context and even deciding for yourself that you understand and dictate what is and what isn't OK on behalf of your precious deity.
The cold reality of it all is that religion has brought more pain, suffering, self perceived superiority, judgement and division than any other force in history.
In most cases I simply ignore the worryingly frequent affirmations of one's belief (almost as if you'd forget your god existed if you didn't remind yourself regularly), and I prefer not to interfere.
But sometimes, when people try to pass off stories as fiction, and when those people are in a position to shape and mold the future.. it shows us how we can simultaneously push the frontiers of knowledge and recede back into the depths of often barbaric rituals.
Case in point: men screaming God Is Great while hurling stones at a half buried woman.

Black stone is insignificant in islam. We only touch/kiss it because it's sunnah. No wishes. No genie.

I never underestimated the impact nation of Islam had on the black community specially during an important time in black american history, if it helped many black men network and find their place in the community at a time where such support services didn't exist then how can I criticize that.
