Well... I like the Soulquarians better... but they are a Native Tongues spin-off... so I agree. Native Tongues was killing it.

Common has at least 2, maybe 3 classics (Can I Borrow a Dollar, Ressurection, Like Water for Chocolate).
Erika Badu gets you at least 1 classic (Baduism)
the Roots have at least 2 probably 3 (definately Do You Want More and Things Fall Apart)
Mos Def gets u Black on Both Sides, add Talib and now u got the Blackstar and Reflection Eternal lps. :whew:
Slum Village Fantastic pt2 puts you way over the top.

Thats 10 certified classics without getting into the possible classics. (All those albums are like 4.5 / 5 star reviewed and regarded as piff)
I didn't even need to count D'Angelo... :dead:
Hell... I didn't even count Q-Tip or Kanye who started rolling with them late in their movement... or Jill Scott.

Also, OP don't forget Queen Latifah was in Native Tongues. People forget that.:ohlawd:

Death Row
Snoop has 1

how you gonna leave Meth(and, possibly ODB :patrice:) off that Wu list..? :martin:

And it's not close.

3 Feet High and Rising
Peoples' Instinctive Travels in the Paths of Rhythm
De La Soul Is Dead
A Wolf In Sheeps' Clothing
Low End Theory
Midnight Marauders

That's 6 bonafide classics. If you counted Brand Nubian as under the Native Tongues umbrella (I wouldn't) it would be 7 (One For All).

the issue is you're stuck in the past, when the whole point of what determines a classic is how it is perceived over time

I don't care about its reception when it came out. Liquid Swords is a classic now. It is relevant, it is recognised etc., and it obviously has the quality. It is undisputed at this point.

What's that supposed to mean? The Source gave next to nothing a 5 mic rating back then. According to The Source Cuban Linx, Enter the Wu-Tang, The Infamous, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, ATLiens, and Reasonable Doubt were not even classics and Da Shinin got a fukking 3.5, much less Liquid Swords, Ironman, Supreme Clientele, and Wu Tang Forever. That does nothing for your argument. Real heads acknowledged AWISC's greatness when it dropped.
Actually in 90-91, the Source gave quite a few albums 5 mics.
The last albums to get 5 mics were De La Soul is Dead and Low End Theory.
Some point after Low End Theory, Reginald Dennis takes over as the music editor and institutes a "no 5 mics" policy. So basically, from 92-97, other than Illmatic, the highest rating you could get was 4.5.
I posted the review just to show evidence that the album wasn't initially hailed as a classic (and you're far more restrictive with your definition, you're definition is akin to what I consider GOAT contenders). Ultimately, time will tell whether an album is classic or not, initial reception has nothing to do with that. The Black Sheep album was on the 100 best albums list in 98. Imo, the albums stature has receded with time. I don't think it was ever in that elite category you are putting it in, but even still, since 98 on, the album has receded.

Not to mention that LS was neck and neck with OBFCL initially. That changed over time of course.
