For 8 teams, which is over a quarter of The League, they haven't played since mid-March. They've had a 9.5 month off-season when tip off comes 12/22...
For another 6 teams, they haven't played since mid-August, so those teams have had a full, 4-month offseason....
Another 9 teams were eliminated by early September (Bucks eliminated September 8), so there's a 3.5-month layoff for these teams...
So in a 30-team league, 23 teams will have had at least a 105-day (3.5 months) offseason, or greater, after an initial 4+ month break from March thru July 2020. 8 of said 23 teams, who haven't played since March, with the rest of 23 teams, having played between 8-18 games following a handful of preseason games...
There is no perfect solution, as it has been argued that the longer layoffs will hurt those teams as much as the final handful of teams who played into late September. But overall, these guys have had more than enough rest. The Lakers and Heat, after an initial 4-month break/offseason with everybody else, only played 29 total actual games once the year restarted, which is the equivalent of basically a third of a full season---->after a full offseason-esque break...
It aint like dudes ain't had time off, and because The League wants to get back on regular schedule, this makes sense...
Of course, its more about the money for everyone involved, and I get it. Thats cool too, but the idea these guys haven't had enough rest is crazy. In a regular calendar year, there is 3 months offseason between the last Finals game and the start of camp. Thats it, these guys are playing basketball 9 months out the year in any regular year. This year, 4 months between shutdown and July camp, coupled with 7 weeks between last Finals game and start of camp, even the two teams that went the deepest (Lakers/Heat) have had 6 months off this year, twice as long as they'd get in a normal season, and again, everybody else has had even longer off time...
If rest is an issue, just load manage as necessary. But every single player in the sport has had way more off time in 2020 than they'd get in a normal season. Everybody...
