Didn't know those were credited as rebounds...:dwillhuh:

What happens when the other team gets the backtap...turnover on Chandler, steal by player who gets the ball..:leon:

One of two things:

- Either it's a controlled tap, so he has possession (just like if player A tips the ball to player B who scores, Player A gets the assist) and gets credit for the rebound, BUT it should be a back-court violation if it crosses the line

- Either it's not a controlled tap, so no possession, which means it's ok if it goes backcourt BUT he doesn't get the rebound.

Either way, are we even sure they count those as rebounds?

Anyway, as long as we keep getting those extra possessions :yeshrug:

he only gets the rebound if his team mate catches the ball, so if other team gets it or it goes out of bounds no rebound. He seems to have some type of control since he it usually goes to a team mate

Always assumed the first nikka to actually have control got credit for the rebound in those situations. :manny:

Rebounds are credited to the first player that gains clear possession of the ball or to a player that successfully deflects the ball into the basket for a score.

I didn't know a player gets credit for that. I thought that type of rebound counted as a 'team rebound' :dwillhuh:

A team rebound is when Team A gets possession without a player gaining clear control like if a player from Team B taps the rebound out of bounds. Team A gets credit for that rebound since they ultimately gained possession but since no player on Team A actually gained possession it counts as a team rebound.

If a player swats the ball towards a teammate than *he had control of the ball* and is credited with the rebound.

If a player swats the ball into the hands of the opposing team than *he never had control of the ball* and is not credited with anything. The player who ultimately had control of the ball first, is the player who get's the credit for the rebound.

Overall bullshyt rule/stat in that case...because most of the time he's just swatting it backwards with the hopes that his teammate is in the general area....

I agree, a player shouldn't be credited for that

And no, he didn't have control when he's going up in a crowd and hitting it out.

That shyt goes under "intangibles", "things that don't show up in the boxscore" and whatever other euphemism you want to use, word to Joel Anthony

I've always wondered what they put in the stat sheet when a player gives an alley-oop off the glass.

Is it just an assist OR does it count as a missed shot since they're throwing it at the goal...and does the player that finishes the oop get a rebound as well as the two points? :manny:
