Not really following your logic here as Outkast is the same genre. Gamble and Huff aren't.

And most people my age knew older acts from other genres just based on sampling.

Fred.

This.

They were shown a picture of Outkast from the 90's. Given that the last time Kast was consistently on TV was 2006, it isn't surprising they wouldn't recognize them. There's also the fact that people watch everything on YouTube so if they aren't actively seeking out Kast, they won't recognize them. They didn't even recognize Destiny's Child and I think only one of them was able to recognize Beyonce from the group and that was after kind of being led.

I would be more interested in seeing their reactions to hearing songs from Kast's first three albums. At age 19-20, there's a lot of artists before my time that I wouldn't recognize if shown a picture.

Drake is Drake and J. Cole is for casuals

Why are y’all fake surprised

If this was 2013 everyone would choose J. Cole to go. Cole still feeds his fans pretty often, ROTD3 just came out
:camby:

J Cole ain't for no damn casuals..that would be Drake.

Cole gets no real mainstream play...you have to be a fan and actively search for Cole music to hear it.

Kendrick everytime he drop an album will have atleast 2 singles on the airwaves for half the year..and appearances at all the award shows.

Cole is always on the radio and always has been, at least in Maryland

Cole has Work Out, Can’t Get Enough, Nobody’s Perfect, Crooked Smile, Power Trip, Love Yours, Wet Dreamz, G.O.M.D, No Role Modelz, Apparently, etc etc

And now he’s on A Lot, London and he got that new song with Da Baby

And none of them songs sound different, it’s “safe”. Kendrick’s music is crazy different not everyone listens to that sound

By causals I mean like the average mf, everybody listens to drake. You got 70 year old white people who like drakes stuff

Cole is like that just not nearly to that extent

And Kendrick stopped being for casuals once he dropped TPAB
Hell yeah, you got middle eastern grandmas listening to God's plan :mjlol::mjlol:

GKMC was his most accessible project, came out late 2012 and bled into 2013, i was in like 7th-8th grade during that time and Kendrick was HUGE to everyone

TPAB was too different for mainstream listeners, it had acclaim and real fans loved it but the casuals ain’t rock with it

Edit: and Cole ain’t become a phenom til FHD came out, EVERYONE hopped on that bandwagon and he’s been going strong since
Damn is Kendrick’s most accessible project.

Damn is Kendrick’s most accessible project.

The singles, not the other songs

GKMC will always be his most accessible, people was listening to that whole album, not just what they heard on the radio

DAMN was Humble then DNA then Loyalty then Love for most people and those were all radio singles

I disagree. The whole album from top to bottom was commercial, way more so than GKMC. The latter was more ambitious, longer songs and the beginning of his complex/abstract lyrics.

The sound of GKMC was modern is what I mean, It wasn’t different for those times

DAMN doesn't sound like anything that came out
