you can blame the economy or the new nyc demographic or stubhub or whatever you want

fact is people in the city are simply less interested in sports. the only ticket that maintains its value is knicks/rangers and thats only because its right in midtown and its all corporate.

apart from that the only sports ticket that also kept its value is us open, but thats a global event and people come from other countries for that. so it doesnt really count. also doesnt count, playoff games for mets (due to rarity), not even the yankees anymore. those regular billy joel concerts at msg are crazy too. but he's the goat ny signer so thats an exception.

the only potential team i could see being super popular week in week out is if they move nycfc to flushing. now that would be a real neighborhood team. but it makes too much sense so no way its happening.

Thanks to filling the blanks on my last post, really reading about how YankeesNets partnership and ultimately breaking up leading to Brooklyn Nets, YES Network, and the Prudential Center is really fascinating, should be a 30 for 30 at some point.

Documentary-worthy, for sure. Especially when you add the Jay Z factor to it.

There is one already that provides some background, "The Battle for Brooklyn":

The Izod/Meadowlands was a horrible location for them. But you did see families
attending those J Kidd/Vince Carter games.

Newark probably had more potential for them than either the Meadowlands or
downtown Brooklyn. There is parking and mass transit at/near the Prudential.

No parking at the Barclays, which means the legacy Nets fans from Long Island and
Jersey are disconnected from the franchise.

Lirr is steps away from Barclays. Long Island fans are not cut off.

The problem is the product. Let them be a second round team with a real star them seats would be filled. There are millions and of people with in a 30 min subway ride of Barclays

They were supposed to stay in Newark as the brother franchise to the Devils hockey team.

They couldn't get the Newark arena deal done in a timely manner, so Bruce Ratner bought the team as a move to drive the Atlantic Yards development project in downtown Brooklyn/Ft.Greene.

The Prudential Arena in Newark, over time, would have done better for the Nets than either the Izod Center or the Barclays.

Naa breh. Ratner plan was always Brooklyn and that location. the was clear back when he bought the team in 04. I wish they stayed in Newark. But as long as Ratner had his hands in the wheel BK was inevitable and as much as a lot of my boys wish it the NBA ain't coming back to Jersey. At least for a generation if ever.

It was the owners of the Nets prior to Ratner who wanted to move the Nets and the Devils to Newark from the Meadowlands.

The prior owners had a history in Newark and were backers of Cory Booker.

When the prior owners' partnership dissolved, they sold the team to Ratner (who has no connection to Newark) who wanted to use the Nets move to drive the development of the arena and the Atlantic Yards project.

They will be alright once they get some talent. That Celtics trade screwed up their future.

I think they should have picked better team colors and uniforms. Their shyt looks bland.
