Whats wrong with the lottery as is?

It doesn't address the tanking that it was designed to.

So 48 win Phoenix gets the number one pick last year?

What's wrong with that? If a 48 win team can miss the playoffs by luck of the draw then why can't that same 48 win team get a legit shot at the top pick by luck of the draw.

I agree with this. the teams that suffer the most are teams that actually try everything they can to make the playoffs and win, but wont ever get past the first two rounds. So the only choice is to either blow everything up or pray for a miracle. Give those middling teams the same shot to get a superstar and become elite.

Basically the way it goes now. Get superstar first, build team 2nd. waste years of stars prime.
But why not build competitive team now. Get superstar after, then take next step.

Took the words out of my mouth. :salute:

i just dont think tanking is the problem people make it out to be
the worst team rarely gets the number 1 pick.
even when teams tank and get a high pick, they still trash:yeshrug: (philly, clevland, NO (TO A lesser extent) etc
and whats wrong with a shyt team getting a high draft pick:what:

What's wrong with an average to slightly subpar but not completely ass team getting a high draft pick every once in a while? If teams are getting high picks and still remaining trash what's the point? :heh:

There are trades. And everybody doesn't have options like Shaq or Dwight. Most players have to go where they are wanted and sometimes that's gonna be Minnesota or SAC. You don't need superstars to just not suck. What about when small market team do manage to rise up to at least be decent...what do that get...nothing but a ride on the treadmill. Imagine if Denver or Minny or even PHX had a legit shot at Wiggins or Embiid.

Trades aren't an option either. No one is going to trade anything of worth for a guy who is going to bail the first chance he gets. Trading for second tier dudes only turns you into the Hawks for the last decade of good team but never going to do shyt. The draft is generally the only way those small market teams get good talent. OKC is in for a fall if Durant leaves and Westbrook bounces because all that winning goes out the window and then they realize no one is going to play there and any trade will be for like a year and then the dude leaves.

It sucks but that's how it goes. Utah and them are fukked if this goes through and they suck and then all of a sudden fall back to 7-10 and miss out of that top flight talent...thus forcing them to build an 07-12 Sixers team and be ass forever or hope that for some reason some dude wants to go play in Salt Lake City.

It's fixed regardless. Remember people, Silver works for the owners. These owners at the end of day don't care about winning, but only care about $$$. If a team is a on the losing end, they need to rebuild, fixing a draft for them gives them a helping hand.

If OKC doesn't completely suck ass the two years after they got Durant they never get Westbrook or Harden and Durant is probably already gone. Teams shouldn't have to completely suck in order to be able to put better squads around their superstars and have a chance to compete. The Hawks, not the biggest market, signed Joe Johnson to a max contract in FA. Before that they weren't even a playoff team. At least that signing made them relevant in their conference for a minute. Charlotte isn't he biggest market and they just pulled Lance. Bynum went to Cleveland last year. J Smoove went to Detroit (:snoop:). Smaller markets can sign second teir and below guys. There is only so much room in NY and LA.

That doesn't have to be how it goes. The whole basis of this thread and the proposed changes is changing how it goes.

I would make small changes but its really no way to fix it

In basketball whoever gets lucky enough to draft an all time great player will win championships.

One player has more impact in basketball than any other sport :manny:

Nothing will change that

Taking away incentive to suck and giving teams that have some infrastructure in place a shot at the ATGs fixes it.

just answered your own question breh
i guess im old school
i like seeing a team be trash, draft a superstar player, and slowly build up a team
happened with mj, lebron, iverson, dwight, and its beginning to happen with john wall right now
a team getting multiple draft picks and still remaining shytty has to do with management
which is my point, high draft picks dont equal automatic success
you still gotta know wth your doing

a 48-50 getting the first pick in da draft is dumb as hell to me
if you can win that many games, clearly you are not that far off
that team is a trade or two away from being in da playoffs

teams who win 15-20 games clearly need serious help
and not every team is tanking, some teams just suck

basketball is fine the way it is, why everyone trying to change shyt this year
11 min qrts
less games
changing the draft

Atlanta CAN be a big market. Bynum was fukking done when he went to the Cavs and they were desperate enough to sign him. Lance is a batshyt insane and I think his market wasn't as good as he thought and he was mad that the Pacers weren't trying hard to get him back. And Josh Smith? Yeah there is a reason why he signed in Detroit.

The main goal should be to win a chip, no? Lance and Josh are solid players for sure but neither will take a mediocre team over the top. Not many dudes can..those that can are normally drafted by their squad and that squad does everything in their power to keep them or else they team up with another star elsewhere.

The Sixers tank is done with good reasons. Jrue is nice but not great. Turner is ass. Thad is what he is. Hawes is basura. They got Noel and a top 10 pick for Jrue...you do that everytime. Embiid has my scared but if healthy dude is legit. They add another young talent in next draft and all of a sudden they are have a team that can be built around for a decade.

anything can happen for sure but a proposed roster of MCW,Oubre(or Stan Johnson),Saric,Noel, Embiid sounds a hell of a lot better than a Jrue,Turner, somedudelikeGordan Hayward,Thad,Hawes lineup.... that's how teams have to look at it. It's a major gamble but it one that many franchises have to take and fukking with the draft can potentially only make it harder on the Utah's of the world.

THAT being said, I don't hate the proposal that much better than the other fukk shyt they were talking about.

Some changes are necessary. Some aren't. Staying the same just because is just as silly as changing just because.

Funny how you didn't mention Kobe and Duncan and Shaq aka the three most successful guys of this generation from a team standpoint. Funny how you mentioned 3 guys that ended up leaving the squad that drafted them. BTW Magic and Bird walked right into championship situations as did Russell (that's 19 out of 29 championships from the 50s to the 80s right there so what old school are you referencing? Just like a 48 win team is a trade a two away from being in the playoffs (the most ridiculous yet sadly accurate statement I have read in a minute) a 15-20 win team is a trade or two away from being at least decent. Nobody is saying that the 48 win team should get the pick automatically but they should have a shot, especially while watching an East where only 2 teams had better records than them. They basically put all that work in to be this great surprise team for absolutely nothing. That is far worse than a 15-20 win squad not getting yet another high pick.

This is my point breh. Only superstars can take a mediocre team over the top. Small market mediocre teams only hope of getting a superstar is through the draft. Their chances of getting that superstar are almost non existent under the current system. Being mediocre is worse than being good and thusly teams have no real reason to at least try to be decent if they aren't competing for championships.

what do they have to do with anything
shaq in orlando proves my point
kobe wasnt drafted in top 10
spurs had a nightmare season of injuries the season before and ended up getting duncan (boston had been tanking and failed)
