NBA Youngboys tour and ascension to the next level of stardom. Really feels like we are at the end of the Drake era of rap

YBs fanbase is gonna outgrow him tho. He won't be pulling huge arenas in his 30s like Drake does.
the music has to evolve. Thats where Uzi and Carti are fukking up.

The Weeknd is gonna be a legacy act for this reason. Drake is gonna have to make that pivot FAST.

Catalog is important.

This is why I’m comparing him to Lil Baby.

Wrong. Lil Baby wasn’t an industry push. You’re wrong here. Baby ran the streets AND radio and had mainstream appeal with black audiences.

This negates your entire point.

YB is on fire, but he’s not even where Lil Baby was a few years ago.
Lil Baby was definitely an industry push. He wouldn't have even started rapping without the industry push that Young Thug provided lol.

Also, a lot of y'all don't realize just how long YB been popping. He's been know since 38 Baby in 2016 and poppin since 2017 with AI Youngboy. "Outside" and "Solar Eclipse" came out in 2018. Those are some of his biggest records. I'd say this is YB's second wind.

Thats not an industry push. Lil Baby took off in the streets cause he was dope. This wasn’t fukking LA Reid reposting him :mjlol:
"Industry push" seems to have different meanings depending on who you talk to. It's not a negative connotation to me. He had prominent people in the industry vouch for him and give him features for free. Sounds like an industry push to me.

And legacy hip-hop media continues to take the L, since these are the only folks actually covering this 🤦🏽‍♂️

I’m sure the 45+ year old Gen-X faces of hip-hop media (Ebro, Rosenberg, CTG, Budden, etc.) will continue to push the innovative ideas forward by recycling discussions on the same 3-4 artists on repeat as the culture passes them by…

look up lil baby’s first interviews on radio…bruh was shy and evasive.

Yall are living in the moment.

YB’s success can't be undermined, but I just want this talk to be put in perspective.

You’ve seen this all before.

Drake's gonna be a legacy act off of his catalog and the nostalgia associated with it. People who were HS seniors in '09 view Best I Ever Had as part of the soundtrack to one of the best times of their lives.

This is 75% wrong

90’s was MC Hammer

2000’s was Eminem

2010’s is right

2020’s can’t be decided yet, but Kendrick is a strong favorite if he drops consistently going forward

This sounds like hate. As long as his music continues to mature and evolve he should be fine.

That’s a big if. Most artists who make youth centered music don’t evolve effectively when they get older. Not saying he won’t have a fanbase it just won’t be as big. Usually a good barometer for the artists who will have longevity is how popular they are overseas especially in Europe. YB doesn’t have a huge overseas following.
