It's amazing how many people had their hands in Kobe's pockets when that check was cashed. It's hilarious how dudes have been coerced into believing that this pay cut nonsense is the business. I don't give a damn who the player is - get the most your value can on the market, in all aspects across the board - not just professional basketball.

There's no reason a guy like James should be taking pay cuts. If he has to get a fraction of his true value, then there's nothing wrong with him wanting more, there's something inherently flawed with system if billionaire owners can't accommodate that and put a serviceable unit around him.

You people crying for these HoF caliber guys to take pay cuts in order to "compete" are outraged at the wrong people, but that was their agenda in the first place.

. Shouldn't the organization be able to put adequate pieces around him without him being short changed?
nope, and he shouldn't expect them to either. Lakers aren't a drafting organization so majority of the players you guys pickup via free agency won't be on cheaper contracts. kobe is 24 million out of the soft cap. if he wanted to compete for titles as a laker he would have taken a bit less. in fact he should have waited until this free agency to discuss roster changes.

Lakers have Zero Assets outside of Randle, this isn't a once in a life time heat situation either.

Dumbest post ever. Especially considering Iwas speaking more in general in relation to the league and not just about one team. But please carry on

I'm speaking on the lakers specifically. it's not dumb. once you guys lost dwight you lost leverage for free agents unless you

A. Overpay prospects
B. redraft. its 2005-6 all over again.

Rudy gay will be looking for a team next year
deng as well.

The Lakers are so dumb. Shouldn't have even offered an extension in the first place in November of all times when he didn't even play a game.

If they had signed him for $17 million this year and say, $19 million next.... they'd be a lot better off.

They aren't even signing Julius Randle yet because of $500k in savings to go after free agents :russ:

exactly you can argue about caps and all that bullshyt but i'm discussing the CURRENT situation not what if no cap. lakers handled the entire situation like idiots.

Exactly. If this was pre-2011 CBA, It's whatever. You go over the tax, still can do sign and trades, etc. You pay dollar for dollar tax and for LAL its no problem.

But now under this system, the approach has to change from the team standpoint. A lot of the veteran players realize it later in their career because if its about winning, you need guys who can extend your career and give you a better shot.

Not saying it's right but the system that was agreed to in 2011 made everything head this route. Obviously Kobe is worth more than his salary but if they had offered him 2 years $38 million last fall or during this week of free agency, I doubt he'd turn that down especially with the injuries and the opportunity to land two max guys.

They'll go the Mavericks route of 2013 and 2014 and sign a bunch of guys to decent contracts to fill the roster and contend for the 7th or 8th seed.
