Do yall know how crazy yall sound talking about people making upwards of 6 figures being irresponsible for having kids?

Do yall think only the wealthy should have children?

Any couple with a combined income of 75k or more should be able to afford to raise children in any place in this country, the fact they cant speaks to serious issues with this country.

Reading shyt like that blew my mind. If a couple with a combined income of $180k+ shouldn't have kids, then who tf SHOULD? I mean I understand the argument that a Walmart greeter and a Target overnight stock clerk shouldn't be having kids, but professionals with "good jobs" making well into the six figures?? WTF is going on out here?

And for anyone who thinks couples paying $1500/mo or daycare would be "better off" if the wife/mother stayed at home...... The woman in those scenarios is usually bringing in double, if not triple that so no, staying home isn't an option. Still doesn't make the cost any less outrageous. A lot of couples are forced into paying exorbitant childcare costs for this reason alone.

But shoutouts to anyone whose mom's basically left them with any Tammy, Diane and Harriet and considered it daycare or "babysitting" I guess. However lets keep in mind, not everyone grew up with the benefit of having a bunch of unemployed family willing to watch kids for spare change.

Breh, what I’m saying is not hard to achieve. In fact, I would’ve saved a lot more back then if I knew then what I knew now.

I worked in a T-Mobile store 40 hours a week, plus commission. 40% of my basic salary went towards rent, the commission I earned covered other bills. The numbers are only iffy to people who can’t manage their money.

Like I said:
Rent gets paid first.
Phone bill (discount for being an employee)
Other utility bills.
Food (which I cooked so I saved a ton there)
Necessities (toiletries, cleaning etc)
No car at the time as I didn’t need it.

And yet, I still don't see any real numbers or even estimates.

People love to argue that people shouldn't have kids if they aren't at a certain level in life, but the bar keeps steadily going up and nobody has any solution other than to not have kids and let your bloodline die.

60k for one person should be more than enough to live a comfortable life while raising children.

35-40k should be enough to not be homeless anywhere in the country, but the cost of living is ridiculous and the places that are affordable lack job opportunities.

Hey, you can take it or leave it. I’ve got no reason to lie. It’s very achievable to do what I did if you’re child free and spend wisely.

This was nearly ten years ago, I said what percentage of my salary/commission went towards my rent and savings.

If you want to cry woe is me then you go ahead and do you.

Nah, they're just not good with money. Just budget and you should be able to make $12 an hour at 30 hours a week stretch pretty far with enough left over for a comfortable savings.

Depends on where you live and what your family situation is. I was raising my sister and doing my best to keep my parents from getting foreclosed on in 2008-2010. I needed 80k to stay afloat.

Pretty ignorant considering the cost of living varies significantly in the US.

$12/hr in Wedowee, Alabama can work. $12/hr at 30 hours in any top 10 metro? Forget it. You won't have a roof over your head.

Exactly. $12 in a real city you better be ready to work 60 hours a week or get a roommate

BTW, I’m not shytting on anyone. One’s career/job doesn’t make the next man better or worse than you. We all know that wealth is disproportionately distributed. We all know the middle gets squeezed the most. We know these major corporations pay little to no tax. We know it’s unfair how inflation is above the average person’s wage increase.

Now what?

Do you sit and complain about it or do you spot an opportunity? Maybe I’m just a pure capitalist but I’ve seen and heard too many people complain rather than try and find solutions.

If you don’t empower yourself economically, then you limit your options and influence. So really, it’s up to you. Find your way to the front of this rat race or get left behind. Because it’s not going to change anytime soon.

It's funny how people in this thread all are not of the 40% yall are some delusional muthfukkas

I use to be part of that 40%

If I missed a paycheck my parents lose the house,.my sister drops out of college, and I would lose my shytty apartment with my furniture thrown out in the street. Sister is a surgeon, parents got a paid off a house, and I got a mortgage in a good area but all of that coulda been lost in a major way with a misstep.

the ether
How many have new phones, new cars, and houses they can't afford? How often do they eat out?

Can't throw this statistic out there without going into good detail. Folks could make $100k/yr and still be broke

That's half the point.

I read some article when this came out written by a dude who made like $175,000/year and they fit into this category. Mortgage, car loans, student loans, and sending their kids to private school had them broke.
