Because some of the best looking chicks don't realize what the real world is all about while in college so afterwards they try to find a good provider. Generalizing here, but I'm willing to bet that the average engineering major doesn't get anywhere near as much action as the average non-engineering major and therefore is ecstatic when he realizes that someone from the opposite gender is finally showing interest.
