no we didnt. nobody was watching the super bowl thinking "i like the rams. i wonder what the rappers are like out there in st louis".

im not arguing about what life is like in st louis. lol.
I'm talking about people in the whole state breh. You can't read at all my nikka.

lol

What I'm trying to impress upon you is that Nelly had the whole region's support, that shyt is feverish.

When a whole region catches fire that shyt spreads.

Not every rapper does that well in their own region.

The hype started with the championship, caught fire to everything else and spread. St. Louis got put on the lap in both sports and entertainment like never before. The hype train was huge nikka

You can't comprehend that shyt cause you can't think outside the box and outside your own city.

@Dre Space Age MY BAD. i didnt get what you were trying to say at 1st.

BUT NAH. thats a wack theory.

theres plenty of guys who had their whole city/state/region behind them, sold alot of units and stayed local/regional.

country grammar was just a huge song that caught on with people of all ages/backgrounds fresh out the gate. then he kept droppin hit after hit after hit in the same vein. its not rocket science. no need to draw up any theories.

The Ummah!
I have a theory.

All eyes were on St. Louis due to the RAMS winning the Super Bowl in 1999. First championship since 1951.That brought up the morale of the whole city. I was stationed in Missouri back then, Missouri as a whole was hyped the fukk up period, then Nelly came in and rode the wave with good music.

one of the greatest super bowls ever breh :banderas:

But the same thing happened in Houston, super bowl came in 2004, houston music scene blew up in 2005. it might just be a coincidence, or something :demonic:. Dallas was similar too, but their music scene was questionable :shaq2:

His blow up is not any crazier than many other rapper's blow up imo :manny:

I see what you mean tho breh, he came out of nowhere with a fat hit

Who is comparable to Nelly?

His fall off was just as epic because he went from putting out two albums at once that both sold platinum to flopping. Immediately. No gradual decline like 50 or Luda, he just fell off a cliff.

I know that break didn't help him any but I actually thought people would be happy that Nelly was back.

Is Luda the only one close to Nelly as far as this convo is concerned?
Without all the :inlove: over his backstory and the I got shot 9 times and all the constant beef gimmickry...he basically had the same career trajectory as 50

59 was the most packaged and promoted artist of all time when he singed to shady

Plus he had failings before GRODT

no the same cannot be said for drake. go outside.

lol @ drake ever being the biggest rapper in the game.

What is also shocking is that Nelly made a #1 of singing about a Drive-by. He was among the first to break the mold of harping the negativity of the past and looking forward to the future.

fake ass bytches at Spelman.

mad at some bullshyt video that only came on after hours when Atlanta is the strip club capital :snoop: causing campus-wide commotion about it instead of the bone marrow charity organization he came there to speak about.

Them same bytches that allowed Nelly's sister to die and later gassed up Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz.

Main reason for his success is simple: his music and image got him over in a major way with white girls aged 14-21 and they buy more records than just about any demographic. Give him credit for understanding melodies and pop songwriting but as soon as that demographic moved on to the next trend his career was over. Dude was hugely popular for 3-4 years then fell off a cliff.

nelly a crossover artist for sure but Country Grammar was gold. Act like you'd put the :dahell: instead of :ahh: if Greed, Hate, Envy dropped where you were at.
Nelly shouts out Jahidi White and Larry Hughes on the intro track lol
