Nelly lowkey had lyrics though. Not on some Nas shyt, but he had metaphors and similes that are much better than today's popular artists.

And some shyt that I definitely didn't catch back then, being in middle school.

"My grammar be's ebonics, gin tonic and chronic
fukk bionic it's ironic, slammin nikkaz like Onyx" I definitely didn't catch that back then.

you know what, when i heard "hot in here" at a club 4 weeks ago i realized this actually has credibility, i never was and never will be a fan of nelly but he certainley could rap better than some of these guys doing it now, especially certain kids with entire songs that have 5 minute hooks, thats that shyt i dont like.

lol @ people still in denial concerning drake being an industry plant.

nikka if you don't get outta here with that wack ass line. those were low key lyrics to you? I slam nikkas like Onyx? that's like me saying, "You can't touch this like Hammer". Nelly was never even close to being nice as a rapper, just made catchy radio songs, that was his lane. ahahhahahaa @ I slam nikkas like onyx, too much.

but when a rippity-rappin @$$ dude uses the same line, you people go :dwillhuh: in amazement.

also, its funny how you skipped over the rest of those bars.

and its not like dude was in here totin nelly as some supreme lyricist anyway.

Nelly gets a pass, never a lyricist, always made great tracks, and stayed with the hits, when I think Nelly, I think wiling out in HS to his jams in my glory days, and at that time Nelly was :king:, so I will always be partial to him, even though I admit I couldn't really stand him those days

Shame bitter black women brought him down

son, when have you EVER seen me post some wack ass line and claim it was dope. and the rest of the bars were garbage, he didn't even highlight the rest of that wack shyt is why i didn't mention it. but you thought all those rhyming words were dope? my grammar be ebonics, gin tonic and chronic? what type of transition was that, he went from his grammar being ebonics to mentioning gin and tonic and chronic. didn't say he puffs and drink them, just throws them out cuz they rhyme. hell, Kris Kross spit damn near the same line in 1993, Nelly spitting shyt like that in 2000 sounded even worse.

plus, there is nothing "ironic" about slammin nuggas like onyx.

Nelly is trash. Was always trash. and never got a serious look from those in the know. a few guilty pleasure radio jingles, sure. but that's where the buck stops.

congrats on another platinum thread though. that IS the objective after all.

Yeah, dude blew up. I remember seeing the country grammar video in the summer of 2000 on rap city :krs: and saying to myself, this is a catchy song but nobody going to listen to a dude from St Louis. His album dropped and it did not debut well, fast forward a few months into the fall and his records were selling like hot cakes at an IHOP.

People got to understand....he went DIAMOND in the prime of Napster. That will never happen again, not in the rap game.

I give him props for blowing up the way he did and he did put his city on for sho. You can't deny that. He also bagged fine ass Ashanti too, but real talk I always felt that nikka was wack. I couldn't vibe with his flow and I never felt the beats he was on either.
The only song I felt he ever ripped was the track I think it's called "I'm number One" other than that all his shyt was garbage to me.
oh and...
He did come correct on that Roc the Mic remix dissing KRS though. I never thought he had it in him to do that shyt. Back in HS, only the bytches felt Nelly. I don't even remember dudes feeling his music like that.

The St. Lunatics CD was one of the first I ever bumped in the whip :laff:

He fell off and got played out after Nellyville, though.

and dare I say "Splurge" was an underrated track?
