I listened to the song twice yesterday and enjoyed it. It sounds like Nas had a lot of fun recording it and he's been killing these Legend Has It features.

Then I come in this thread and see a bunch of complaining. "He used to say vulgar, off-kilter shyt in a poetic way. Now, he's rhyming about nothing. Where are the quotables? Where are the obscure references?" "His voice and flow sound different." :unimpressed:

At this point, some of you would be better off listening to Street's Disciple because the Nas you're looking for is all over that album. I already know the Premier album thread is going to be a nightmare on release day. :snoop:

My main thing is just the effort of the bars. Nas used to be able to say some shyt you never heard in your life. He had a way of coloring detail into his rhymes that could be poetic, vulgar or offkilter. sometimes at the same time. He would pull from references that were atypical. I don't hear that anymore. People talking about he killed this verse. What are the quotables? He's saying a whole of nothing in the plainest possible way. The rhymes just don't have that seasoning any more.

Omertà verse is how you describe, in terms of pulling references that are atypical.

Nas always had verses where it’s just shyt talking complex rhyme scheme and showing how good of a rapper he is.

That's right, at his age it's somewhat understandable, but the introspect, the knack for descriptive, thought provoking, multi syllabic, effortless bars, its only in fits and spurts these days.

More often than not his verses sound like he's trying to just get through it, get out the studio, and get on the jet to Monaco.

Not hating, just being real.

ou could be bored to death or either die laughing
Both while you still livin'
Hopeful in high fashion
Talk what I been through in life, what I encountered
It's sorta like blowin' a trumpet, makin' announcements
A sermon that's disturbing to a serpent
A blessing to anyone in attendance, as soon as you hear the verbiage
I'm Mr. Throw your frame in the stretcher if you deserve it
Reverse prophetic, I saw your truth hittin' in verses
Whatever come out of Satan mouth is a lie perverted
It's hell out here, so keep God close on purpose
Life is a small hill to a mountain climber
I'm a ten-time champion, real-life survivor

I get what you mean. I was driving with my brother on a road trip last weekend and some tracks off of IWW were playing and I commented that the way he said things was just different. Like who thinks like this?

But I’d argue he still does it, just not as often. Random example, First bar off of his last album:

“Early on the wake up,
Cunning as the father of the twelve sons of Jacob”

I love Nas and he is my favorite rapper of all time but I really can't listen to any of his newer music... Mainly because of the change in his voice. Pains me to say this but I thought the song was super dope untill Nas's verse came on.
What type of new age synthetic fueled crack are you on :scust:

I like the song and Nas is 52 yrs old so why the fukk would I or anybody else expect him to be on some ultra supreme lyrical miracle shyt at that age :gucci:?

It’s a blessing that he still got enough love for this rap shyt to even continue to do it so Just appreciate it while you can and stfu with all the complaining
