Why only two?

The max we've ever had was three with Liu Kang, Abogado, and BP. I don't think this forum is all that busy to need more than 3 total mods. My plan was the top two vote getters would get the mod status and the 3rd and 4th place would be put on a "reserve list" just in case the first two bail on the job or don't work out for whatever reason.

We don't need a mod like Thomas who thinks its their job to pick and choose topics, we just need someone that ensures what ever convo is taking place, there is no trolling and no dap fishing and pic posting substituting for actual informed discussion.

I can create an official poll on Monday with ALL of the nominees and you guys can vote on who you think can mod this forum well. I think we are looking at two mods to help out BP. If you guys want to keep the voting strictly to HL people, I can skip the polls and we can vote by reply in this thread. Let me know what you prefer.

I'm very obviously self-nominated. With my nomination comes a pair of caveats: 1) I'm a fairly new poster to The Coli so the name "Obreh Winfrey" isn't well known throughout the site and 2) I haven't been able to gather an overall feel to how HL should be in my short amount of time here. At the same time, those detractions support my usefulness. Since I'm not a poster with several months time under my belt I haven't formed any positive or negative relationships with other members. With that, HL doesn't have to concern itself with biased moderation from me. Furthermore, since I have no preconceived notions on how HL should function, the HL community will be able to give me some direction on how discourse should proceed within HL so that the majority of threads facilitate good and passionate discussion. Lastly, one thing that may put some minds at ease is that this wouldn't be my first rodeo as a forum moderator; if those in charge want me to expand upon this then PM me.

I believe that higher learning should constitute intellectual brevity with a broad base of opinions.

The goal of this forum should be to an open forum for ideas and thoughts, unlike the circle jerk of the TLR.

As mod....

1. Our goal is to allow free and open discourse, HOWEVER to maintain that free and open disource, hate speech based off of religious, racial, sexual or ethnic differences will NOT be tolerated.

Disparaging Jews, Indians, Whites, Blacks, Gays etc etc is purely unacceptable. It interferes in what Higher Learning is about.


2. Encourage more diverse posting. Who wants 2016 politics all the time? Why not technological information? Or philosophical.

Higher Learning should be expansive and informative on multiple levels.
