he's like a film maker that only makes movies about slaves and mentally challenged kids prevailing
This is the sum of it ^

But I'm not hating on him, or any of these culture vulture devils.
They just do they're nature. If we did our nature then these vultures wouldn't exist and be as larger.

I don't know what to say about this. Respect the message, however I question the authenticity. Macklemore seems to have genuine feelings, but he's very calculated on how he talks about these issues. If he wrote white privilege 1 in 2005, then you can say he's genuine; but if he was really about the cause, he's had multiple national platforms to play this song publicly thus it makes me question his real reasons.:patrice:

:ehh: I really think dude is genuine..he really just raps about his thoughts and life experiences. For every song with an "agenda" he has a song about his own downfalls, trials and tribulations. He's not a bad rapper either. Dope song. Still don't get all the hate for him on this site
He has you fooled. Im sure his stories are real, but the whole "genuine" angle as well as blatant pandering like this is all just an act.

He said Kendrick deserved the Grammy, posted the screenshot of his text to Kendrick, and kept the award. That says all I need to know about dude's true character.

I dont mind rappers pretending to be what they aren't for entertainment's sake, but this guy is a really bad rapper and a culture appropriater masquerading as an activist.

I see your point...but what happened if he gave it to Kendrick? Would we all be like "we don't need any handouts"? Feel like he's in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation...

I really just take the lyrics at face value though. He has been making social songs for years...it just became an issue once he became famous. Not caping for him, but I guess I don't care enough to dissect to see if there is some ulterior motive behind them...honestly you can very well be right. Maybe I am fooled

his name was on it, why would he give it up?? it shows his character of wanting to be accepted.
he couldve got the name plate changed, taken it off, whatever he coudve did to send it out to show that actions speak louder than words you tweet and text.

he's a fraud. he will never get my respect because he's using his skin to advance in a world he had no problem living in ever

I didn't feel like I was part of the intended audience for this track as a black man, sounded like he was talking more at/to other whites than to me off first listen which is totally fine
Macklemore isn't for black people. Let's just be honest. Let's just be real.

And so what is he doing besides just acknowledging his white privilege? Didn't he also do a song combating homophobia? Are you sure he isn't just playing up the only lane he knows how to? My other point is that black people have already said what he is saying now time and time again. The only reason he's getting props for it is because he is white, and because white people are more likely to listen to him. Thats what I mean when I say he is the physical manifestation of white privilege.

Exactly. When us black folks discuss this...white people play dumb or flat out deny it as if we're somehow in the wrong for mentioning it. Or they pretend they didn't hear what we said.

When white people do it...they get a gold star from the same white people who played dumb and deflected and denied our acknowledgements of the subject. I see the double standard, and I'm glad you do as well.
