I really just take the lyrics at face value though. He has been making social songs for years...it just became an issue once he became famous. Not caping for him, but I guess I don't care enough to dissect to see if there is some ulterior motive behind them...honestly you can very well be right. Maybe I am fooled

If he gave Kendrick the award he said Kendrick deserved he would have got the props he deserved for recognizing the bullshyt and giving something up to fight it.

I feel like no matter what he does he's a losing situation. Someone else in this thread mentioned this song was really for cacs. I agree. I just find it interesting to see his viewpoint as a white guy who at least recognizes there's a problem. Again I just take it a face value. Props to both

Basically. We're not fawning over the track because water is wet. We already know. White people are more likely to put more stock in what Macklemore says off GP than they would a Kendrick Lamar or J. Cole. Happens all the time. I finally listened to the song, and I appreciate the effort. I feel it could've been a lot more pointed, but that's just me though.

The thing for Macklemore is,he's really not the problem. If anything this is hate that should be aimed at his fans.
And when I say "Fans", I don't mean heads who rock with a variety of different types of Hip-Hop.
I'm talking about White America that embraced him with open arms but probably doesn't care Hip-Hop as an art form or genre.

There are people who listen to top 40 and the only other white rapper they know is Eminem
so outside of these two they likely think Hip-Hop is ONLY gangsta rap which leads to praise
that's confusing to someone who really loves this Hip-Hop shyt.

I can't tell you how many times I've cringed from a post by some pseudo deep tumblr reading
white chick going on about how Macklemore is a "breath of fresh air" in Hip-Hop because "No one else" has talked about what he has.


If Macklemore got hot a little over a decade ago,they MIGHT have had a point but at this
point in time there are too many rappers not on that "Shoot em up, move a brick" sorta topic
that are relatively famous.
It's likely what leads to the resentment actual heads feel towards Macklemore.
