shyt was coo.

I don't expect much from Cube these days, it's been years since I listened to a full album from him. I stopped following his output around the War and Peace era. Peace was the final chapter for me.

I'll always respect the nikka for being a legend that's good enough for me. Plus I happen to think the fact that he's black owned and a successful filmmaker is more important to the overall culture. Peeps need to get at Cube and get that black movie renaissance going again like we had in the 90's.

West up and Westside Slaughterhouse were both out before PAC was goin at the Eastcoast. So how was Cube tryna stay relevant. Remember these tracks???

Check out this video on YouTube:

Mack 10 "Westside Slaughterhouse" - YouTube

WC and the Maad Circle-West Up(Feat Ice Cube & Mack 10) [ HD ] 1080p - YouTube

This all before the East West beef

From what I remember that Westside Slaughterhouse was a flip from this in 93 and yeah nikka Cube killed it with that killin honkey hoe$ line on the WS Slaughterhouse.

Tim Dog set the sh1t off with Fvck Compton first, that was what? 91? Rodney O and Joe Cooley responded on the Fvck New York album as well as Snoop on the Chronic.

Common drops I Used To Love Her in 94, which Cube addresses on Mac 10's album.....95. West Up next.....still 95. Bow Down drops in 96. And this ain't even including all the sh1t involving Pac n Big etc.

One of those tracks where I like the idea of the song more than the actual song itself...like in theory "ice cube rapping vaguely about political and social corruption" is something I feel I'm supposed to champion and love...in reality, I'll probably never play this song ever again...dug the Sagan "Pale Blue Dot" quotes scrolling across the bottom

He should just fully and completely pass the torch to killer mike

BOW DOWN was explosive. I remember as a kid everybody was jamming that. MTV played that video every hour. The East Coast must've been burning from that ether. Bow Down was a commercial diss record getting spun all over the country.

That song was my shyt.

And who are these mythical east coasters that "talked down" on the west?

"I admire true nikkas like Dre and snoop"

Erick Sermon and Too $hort - You remind me of my fat gold chain

Ol dirty featuring Eiht & e 40

Menace & Boyz in the hood were smash hit movies in NYC

Ice T put Lord Finesse on and rolled with Donald D and Bronx Style Bob

People actually thought Cypress were from NY or Philly off the phuncky feel one video

Masta Ace had his cousin "J Dawg" from LA theme throughout the entire Sittin On Chrome album.

Every backpacker was playing Pharcyde and Hiero.

Threats album was low key worshipped by NYC beat heads

You seem like u should know this but it wasn't just East Coast artists it was East Coast radio, East Coast Publications and East Coast Promoters as well as East Coast Consumers and yes some East Coast artists were taking shots. Can't deny any of that. Thats why Biggie got sweated in Cali for dissing West Coast artists AZ got checked as well so what ate u talking about?

The Source stayed rating west albums on par with east and putting them on the cover. Radio always played local artists more. Ice T used to get played on red alert all the time though.

I forgot how bad Masta Ace mocked the super gangster on 'slaughtahouse' though. That shyt was genius level parody though.

Bottom line, an E 40 record won't play in NYC the way a Showbiz & AG record won't play in Oakland. It's regional stuff. The source gave both 4 mics but E 40 actually sold some records.

A DJ Quik record won't play the way a Smif N Wessun record won't play. It is what it is.

Sway n King Tech was on at night. They played Soul Clap during the day too bruh. I remember hearing Krs's Ah Yeah during the day, Naughty, Mr. Sacarface Is Back, all that sh1t got daytime spins, no lie bruh. On the Wake Up Show they would play all of that on top of underground cats nobody even heard of....local and beyond. Everything from MOP's How about some hardcore to muthafvckin Mystic Journeymen, The Terrorists.....everybody.

Radio was so sick back in the day.....:wow:
