i know yall can't be this dense. J Cole=house negro which is basically what he means when he's saying Hollywood Cole. That scene when he puts up the fist and the field slave gets pissed at him... Him stealing the guns to show the field negros that even though he's working in the house he hasn't forgot who or what he is, he just has more resources to help them now. Not to mention the sample is a chain gang song black prisoners used to sing when they work.

This.

Cole usually has dual meanings in his songs and in his video that are often left to interepetation. I am by no means good at explaining such, but I suspect Cole is making a statement here with regard to his status hip hops savior (light skinned house nikka) and the hood nikkas (dark skinned slave nikkas).

Again, the song on superficial listen (which is what most of us do with music nowadays, myself included) may seem to not deal directly with the movie. But again I am almost certain there is more to this song and its dual meanings than meets the eye. If you are invested in Cole, you might take time to look deeper. If you're not, then I can't blame you for being :why:But at least with this song, the superficial listen is still radio/club friendly with a dope-negro spiritual denoumont. Me personally, the drum track sounds exactly like 'nikkas Know' so I ain't really mess with this track too hard initially. But I actually thought the instrumental went very well with music video, and set the tone and vibe right. I think it's a dated and somewhat trite contention that the music video has to be a vehicle for the song or vice versa. I'm a fan of narrative music videos. Even if this narrative doesn't necessarily have a resolution, it was entertaining to watch, to me at least.:manny:

My only wish is that the rebels kilt everyone of them white devils, including that white bytch that didn't snitch. :pacspit:They shoulda ran a train on her and then filled her wit slugs. :pacspit::pacspit:

:whoa: Just playin, but everybody shoulda died or the slaves shoulda escaped.

:demonic: Or am I?

I like this song, Cole, and the album in general, but this video is a microcosm of Cole's biggest issue; his shyt can be all over the place with no focus sometimes. Even on this track there're random lines that seem to be there for no reason. The song's called Get Off My dikk, it seems like he's going for the structure of a relationship (The Break Up, The Make Up), he has a line about rich black nikkas being famous/broke black nikkas being brainless, a Ying Yang twins inspired hook....son what the fukk is this song about?:dahell:

No Role Modelz from the title should be about the lack of role models, right? It seems to start off that way with a shout out to Uncle Phil, even brings up Martin Luther King (as cringe worthy as it is to hear him say he'd be on Dreamville). Second verse he brings up a lack of role models, but then just starts talking about chicks. It seems to be more about how women today ain't shyt compared to older generations of women. What happened to no role models, doe?:dahell:Again a hook, despite being catchy as fukk, that has nothing to do with the perceived point of the song. I like both songs but I'm not sure if dude even knows what he's trying to do. He shines on a track like A Tale of 2 Citiez where he stays on topic and coherently presents a dope concept...but again a hook that doesn't really ride with the tone of the rest of the song: Hands in the air now...word Jermaine?:dahell:

I'm positive by now that J. Cole purposely makes videos where the song has nothing to do with the aforementioned video. She Knows and Crooked Smile videos have totally different storylines and concepts from the actual songs themselves.
