You're proving his point. Dipset and The Lox got play back then because the people were feeling them. That's it. Those acts were never, ever critical darlings back then.

:russ: at Freeky Zeeky and Sheek Louch being critically acclaimed.

And most casual rap fans simply don't care about classic albums like we do. Not unless it's a truly iconic album. The distance between Kiss The Game Goodbye and something like The Fix is going to be negligible to most casual fans.

I agree with you but actually I'm saying the same thing you are. They're loved in New York but don't belong in a conversation about goats.

None of those guys are even in the conversation except for Jada. And if you ask someone for their rationale behind picking Jada, they're going to say because he raps good. Honestly, what better reason is there to put someone in your top five?

You've never heard pun and big l brought up in the conversation?

As far as Dipset, I'll concede that usually they are not brought up in that sense. They are given a lot more credence in hip hop than their discography would lead you to believe though.

If you wanna say they're overrated on rap message boards, then maybe I'd agree (and even then, most people on THIS message board wouldn't even put them in their top five). But if I was to go out into DC right now and survey 100 people for their top five, I guarantee no one is going to mention Big L or Pun. Those guys are unsung, if anything. Their biggest fans are just a vocal minority. Plus it doesn't hurt that they died in the 90s.

thank you. lol. buddy is giving me a headache. hes too far off track with his arguments.

ehh, the fix was blah. that chits been collecting dust in my crib for well over a decade. in fairness, i should go back & dust if off but the 5-mic rating was a bullchit lifetime achievement award for face. plus they were seemingly buddied up with the source during that timeframe.

i put face over kiss higher on my artist list because of what he did in '90-94 in his prime.

Really though, on what planet is Kiss a goat contender in the tri-state let alone the rest of the map.

Nas
Jay-Z
KRS-One
Rakim
Kool G Rap
Redman
Ghostface

Explain where Kiss fits in on this list without a single classic album to his name lol. Explain where he fits in on this list in terms of influence.

i dont agree with kiss being a goat contender, for the record.

but chit, when did redman & ghostface get inn the picture?

and in terms of influence, jada is def in contention for the top spot on your list. hes easily more influential than redman & ghostface.
and lol @ jay-z even being in the conversation. jay-z has never even brought an original style to the table. he always either rides whats hot or he sharks lesser known rappers.

Both.

The lox didn't get good placement in the media in the late 90s through the mid 2000s? Rofl. Them nikkas was on the radio every day... "I Get High" was spun out here in the Bay Area for more than a year. They don't even make mainstream singles like that outside of "Jenny from the block" and you're tryna say they didn't get pushed.

Where is the classic material to cement any of them dudes though? They don't got the material for how much they get brought up in the conversation.

He's barely recognized on the east... You said it yourself, he's a "sometimesy candidate" out there. Why is that? He's literally done it all. He's made multiple classic group and solo records unlike Jadakiss.

This is exactly my point. Quik has classic records out the ass and one of the most influential production styles out the West Coast yet the larger hip hop media shortchanges him big time when it comes to recognizing the fact he has one of the strongest discographies in the entire genre.

dog. youre all over the place. nobody is talking about radio play.
you also seem to be confusing critical acclaim and whats hot on the internet to whats being said in the actual streets. and you already admitted that you dont know whats going on up-top, but youre arguing to the death about it.

lol @ scarface being just barely recognized in the east.
when i said face is sometimesy as a goat candidate, i wasnt referencing just the east coast. i was referencing hip-hop in general. and yes, alot of east coasters in their late '30s & up hold scarface in high-regard. i'd say anywhere between top 5 & top 15.

youre hurting your point with dj quik. he has classic upon classics in the eyes of whom? west coast enthusiasts? hes a perfect example of a regional legend and theres nothing wrong with that. but the problem is, youre complaining about regional legends, while trying to boost one yourself on the slick. youre exposing your agenda.

big pun & big l are deceased tho. you know how that goes. and the goat hype for them died down years ago, aside from the ricans still gassin big pun.

are you really trying to say that dipset's catalog is overrated? and keep it funky, are you really familiar with dipset & dblock music like that?

these threads always end up the same way.

east coast doesnt want to admit to the past bias coming from the region.
southerners & west coasters dont want to admit to their bias, and at the same time exhibit that bias by trying to boost local & regional rappers to undeserved levels.

my man str8 said that the jacka and the bul from the coup are better lyricists than jadakiss.:comeon:

I didn't mean to imply that The Fix is a classic, even though that's exactly what I did. The comparison just made sense because those albums came out around the same time.

Fosho

but chit, when did redman & ghostface get inn the picture?

I spoke earlier in the thread about both of them not being given the recognition they should be. They have better discogs than the majority of rap artists. They're not as influential as the others on the list but they are as respected and have the skill + track record to be in the conversation.

How do you figure that?

True, but he has the influence and more than one classic to his name.

You brought up media placement, radio is a part of that.

I never claimed to speak for New York, I can see what I said that made you take it that way though.

He ain't "sometimes" on the west coast. Rap-A-Lot records was a big deal out here and nobody more than Face.

The same can easily be said of "Diplomatic Immunity" as far as who considers that a classic. That album has a fanbase outside of New York but then again DJ Quik has a fanbase outside of LA.

When has Jadakiss ever written a storytelling track in the same league as "Me and Jesus The Pimp"? There's more to lyricism than punch lines.

Jacka wrote poetic about the same topics Jadakiss raps about in a less derivative way, he also had more to say. And jacka was a skilled lyricist, I don't see why you're trying to clown.

@Wacky D has no idea what quik meant to the game. I'm Cin'oh and quik was the shyt to us in his prime. Alot of east coast bias fans think artists from there, that didnt have huge sales, mean something to the world cause they were the shyt on the east. But if you big up a southern or westcoast mc with similar success, they'll claim it was only regional and ONLY meant something out THERE.

i know about quik.

i already shut you down about your numbers argument but youre gonna cook your agenda anyway.

dont even try to paint me as some east coast bias cat. yall know how i get down. i call a spade on whoever. if there is indeed an east coast album that fits your description, i call it out as such. shoot, im doing that RIGHT NOW in another thread.

youre just as bad(possibly worse) than the bias east coasters that you complain about.:heh:

i'll take "kiss the game goodbye" over the fix anyday.

never liked that album at all.

the lox, and especially jadakiss changed the way people rap.

dipset's national fanbase, popularity & classic status trumps dj quik by a wide-margin. its not even up for debate.

and diplomatic immunity isnt even their main calling card. their main thing is the mixtapes. same with dblock.
