The whole World builds homes of solid brick and mortar.
America prefers Timber and Plywood :mjlol:

When has it not been sub grade shytty :gucci:

America bows to corporations.
I went to the middle East and everything is made of Stone and concrete.

The timber companies have a monopoly and it's easier to tear down. The government doesn't want anyone to really own the land they live on.

This is imo the main culprit of the housing crisis.

The way we build only one type of housing is way houses are artificially inflated. Most people grew up on streets with a variety of styles. So there was no way houses were locked in to stay at a price because a nearby house sold for an amount.

So now the older houses can sell higher cause “ they aren’t made like that anymore” in comparison to these crappy build subdivision ones. And these older houses don’t even need to be have repairs done to sell.

Fixed that for you.
Working in the construction field, within a Hurricane/Earthquake zone made me realize how lackadaisical American Architecture was when it came to stability and structure as opposed to style and finish. Even as a kid working as a dogsbody on construction sites, I was always confused how American kids say "I punched a hole in my bedroom wall" until I actually got to stay in an American home and realize that the shyt ain't nothing but Untreated wood (Douglas Fir that's prone to termites) and Sheetrock/Cement board.
The fact that you can walk through most American houses with a sledge and collapse the bytch like Samson was always a scary premise to me but when I actually had to deal with American Carpenters/Builders/Contractors and realized that they tried to justify (while shytting on Caribbean Construction) the use of untreated lumber and ply in houses rather than "Expensive" treated lumber or better yet, Block and Rebar as "Cost effective" compared to what we (And most everyone else outside of America apparently) use, then I realized it was something bigger at play here 'cause what's the sense in actually building a sand castle where the shore comes in? Why are houses in Florida, made so shoddily?
Watching Masons lay and set blocks with absolutely no steel in them or concrete poured into the columns is just criminal.

Funny, I follow these videos on YouTube also, my house is nearly a century home.

Walls are like rocks. I could never live in a new build or one of these generic pre-fab communities.

Wood used back then was all old growth forest and now all that is available is this weak pine? They grow and harvest in no time and it's just not the same

Other issue I see is that modern homes are built to be air tight while older homes 'breathe', being air tight with cheap build where moisture gets in either from outside or inside HVAC is a recipe for mold

Almost everything bad in America can be traced back to a monetized industry requiring it to be so.

And our political leadership looking the other way as the population gets nickel and dimed by big business.

Thats it in a nutshell.

Went down to the islands, saw my cousin's home currently mid build. Cinder block, rebar and when finished it's gonna be a fortress.

Less to build but if I wanted to do the same up here, not allowed.

Ish is madness how we pay way more for less and nobody thinks it strange.

Yeah my folks chose a neighborhood in TX and stayed far away from any that used DR Horton. She likes Carothers instead.

When I first got there, I noticed the wealthy neighborhoods in DC were all red brick homes in yards and the masses lived in wooden tinder boxes..

On my old campus they were building some new homes, some nice duplexes..them shyts went up in like a month. It was my first time seeing an actual construction in detail and it was all plywood.

They even sprayed some green slime in the yard and a week later there was a whole lawn
