How about supporting the few legit black films that get made, like Think Like A Man 2; the upcoming James Brown movie, or Hidden Colors 3? :manny:

I went to the theater to see Red Tails and the Great Debaters.

Went and saw Ray at the theater.:yeshrug:

Happy for Jamie Foxx success in Ray.

Ya'll make me sick.

12 Years a Slave was directed and written by black men. Lupita Nyongo deserved an award for her role because she's a damn good actress and did better than her white counterparts in that category.

I also don't like how people keep bringing up Denzel winning an award for playing Alonzo in Training Day. Did he not deserve it? I also agree that he should have won for Malcolm X, but when Anthony Hopkins or Heath Ledger won awards for being psychopathic killers, nobody brought race into it. White people didn't have to worry about people attributing the negative attributes of a fictional character to their race. But if Denzel gives an excellent performance as an intelligent manipulative albeit demonic villain, he only got the award "because he was black and perpetuating negative stereotypes" or some bullshyt like that.

I also agree in general that we shouldn't look to white people for validation, but pick your battles wisely and give credit where it's due.

Black people only make up 11% of movie goers but that's besides the point. it's not about supporting this or not supporting that. Critics review every flick regardless of how much they make. For the most part black actors have won academy awards playing roles white actors couldn't get.

Wesley Snipes is like the last great black action movie player but instead of giving other African American actors shots in those roles they would rather recycle John McClane.

I hope slave movies continue to be made. I hope dozens are in the works and are continued to be released and get plenty of mainstream recognition. I hope the future generations continue to watch these movies showing the treatment of black people in this country and are never allowed to forget and dismiss what they went through and how far we've come on this county. I hope all you negative nancies continue to seethe because you're tired of their stories being told as though they are no longer significant.

I understand that it's time for other stories to be told and get similar attention as well but fukk anyone saying these movies should go away.

I'm wondering more about why Lupita Nyong'o is getting all the media attention when, while she totally deserved it, she won for 2nd role...and Steve McQueen, the first black director to win Best Movie, is all but an afterthought...now I have this theory about how they talk about "diversity" or whatever they'd rather have a black woman than a black man on newspapers, but maybe I'm seeing too much into it?

You've got a very skewed perspective. Black people are not "inferior" in slave movies.

They are a group of people brutally mistreated by another group of people, no different from portrayals of the Holocaust.

I ask...who's really inferior? The Jew or the Nazi? The black man or the slavemaster? :usure:
