Mahomes was not "BY FAR" the best player. At best he's slightly better than Lamar, Deshaun, and Russ. He simply benefits from having a better system and weapons around. The year before he took over Alex Smith had a career year and was getting MVP buzz early. Then last year when he got hurt they stayed competitive with some garbage journeyman QB.

Andy Reid's system and all the talent the Chiefs have at the skill positions has helped Mahomes out a lot more than folks want to admit. If you put Russ or Deshaun in his spot they would have similar success. Lamar is a different type of player so his ideal supporting cast would have different skillsets. Nonetheless he's on their level as well.

Mahomes might still be the best QB in the NFL right now. But the gap is marginal AT BEST.

So many of his folks were trailblazers and pioneers.

Both sides of his family has been essentially black since the end of slavery. He just has a slightly higher percentage of white DNA than the average Black American which explains him and his father having a more mixed phenotype. But then you look at his mom and sister who are genetically similar to him but have a less mixed phenotype.

DNA and genetics are just weird like that. Phenotype and Genotype don't always line up.
