I didn't even know, and of course no one is talking about it, but check it....

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...ting-visit-to-get-option-play-clarifications/

While making a rule-change presentation to media members Friday, referee Gene Steratore said officials will be looking for a quarterback to make a "definitive show" that he no longer has the ball if a penalty is to be called on a defender for a hit on the quarterback in the first step or two after getting rid of the ball.

"The moment that [the quarterback] releases that ball, he has to present to the defense as quickly as he possibly can that he's no longer in the play," Steratore said.

If a quarterback continues to carry out a fake in an attempt to make defenders believe he still has the ball, Steratore said, that quarterback is subject to being hit legally.

So basically if you fake like you're gonna run. Which is the whole point of the read option... They can murder your qb in the backfield and receive NO PENALTY. The only way to avoid this is to make a GESTURE to let it be known that you don't have the ball

I'm a 49er fan so I am biased. But what in the fukk is this?? You can't stop something so you change the rules to allow hits on the qb if he don't show you his hands or some shyt. Even if he doesn't even leave the pocket??

I said last year they would stop all this shyt by just hitting the qb early. But even then I figured they'd get penalties and pay for it. Now they saying basically if you try that fake, they can hit your ass 10 seconds later and it's still cool.

Good thing Kaep can throw but damn

this rule was in place last year breh...the qb had to put their hands in the air to show they didn't have the ball. it's to protect the qb from taking unnecesary dirty hits.
Read the article. It clearly says rule changes for 2013. What youre talking about. That's like handoffs and what not.

The read option is shotgun or something, I fake it to my rb and pull it back and run outside. The next play I do the exact same thing. Except I actually give it to my rb......

Now if I put my damn hands up, they know I don't have the ball. So what good is me running outside to fake like I got it? They've eliminated the whole "fake" cause I gotta put my damn hands up.

If I was to attempt to fake it last year, you hit me, that's 15 yards. I'm a qb and I don't have the ball. So defenders would have to second guess or at least hesitate and make sure I had it. Which is why it's so hard to stop

Now they saying if you attempt that fake, they don't have to worry bout shyt. They can just lay your qb out whether he got the ball or not. So running the OPTION portion of it, just lost the whole point of the design. Which is to FAKE out the defense

Good.

You can't have it both ways. You want the QB to be able to deceive defenses, and he does exactly that. But then you also want him to be protected when he hands the ball off, yet starts running to try and trick the DE/OLB :wtf:
fukk that shyt. These QBs want to try and trick 265lb DEs and OLBs, that's fine. But they can't expect all the protections afforded to a QB who simply turns around and hands the ball off. It's not fair to defenses when you say "you can't touch the QB on the zone read, because there's a chance he doesn't have the ball at all!!"

Don't see how this really effects the read option. Read option is mainly about having the DE hestitate or either commit to the QB or RB, not necessarily fake him out. Defenders have always been told to hit the QB on options/read options regardless

Here's the original article I was reading. I had to make sure I had it right so I found the redskins article. Here's the packers talking bout their plan to murder Kaep every time he tries it. Again with coaches thinking what the fukk is the nfl trying to do here

http://www.49ers.com/news/article-2...-QB-Hits/ab7b57a2-a2f1-4d75-9169-0c0d04a2862d

“It looks as long as that quarterback is carrying out that fake, he loses his right as a pocket passer,” the Packers defensive standout said. “We’ll see the hits that are legal and what’s not legal, but we think our game plan fits within the scheme of the officials and what we want to do.” - clay matthews

For people saying what's the difference.... You can't even hit a defenseless receiver when he's catching the ball. But now it's officially cool to hit a QB who doesn't even have the ball, cause he's running on the field?

But again. 49ers fan. I already admitted I'm biased. I just think it's crazy nobody could figure it out so they basically changed an entire rules to let you hit (black) qbs but still keep it off limits for Brady and Peyton to keep their game in tact
