like dude a couple posts above me said, offenses have been getting rules changed in their favor for years. It's about time the defense got something that makes their job a little easier.

except this rule has nothing to do with making the defense's job "easier", it has to do with protecting the quarterback and making sure they don't take cheapshots. like my man said, they were doing this last season for all RG3 games in order to protect him from getting crunched after handing the ball off.

:what:

Brady, Brees, Manning, Rodgers, and the rest of the pocket-passing QB's don't do this gimmick shyt, so they're afforded protection once they've released the football because it's CLEAR and OBVIOUS to players, referees, and fans that they no longer have the football. But with these new QBs, it's almost impossible to tell immediately whether they have the football or not. So your solution is to just make them invincible and enforce 15 yard penalties every time a DE/OLB reacts on the QB and puts him in the ground? :wtf:

It aint no gimmick....But I agree with the rest of your post

^^^yup...

thread is silly
Ok I'll eat this one. I really don't think a lot of you are actually reading what the changes are. If all it was, was throw your hands up. LIKE RG3 BEEN DOING.....

Then why in the hell would the redskins coaches be asking the NFL for clarification and worrying about how this will effect him

If this thread is silly and nothing has changed. Then why the hell is clay Matthews up there happy about getting to tee off on Kaep? Why are the 49ers coaches saying the NFL hasn't explained this enough? Why are they worried that the Packers are gonna have a free pass to cheap shot qb's all game??

I mean I didn't write the articleS. But I guess time will tell. But I don't wanna see none of you fools in here crying when your qb gets folded up this season and they it ride

breh you kept saying read the article. Did you read the whole article? Read the last 2 paragraphs. The changes that the refs were there to initially discuss had nothing to do with the read option or QBs getting hit.
The Redskins complained at times last season about some of the hits absorbed by Griffin on option plays. Griffin took to sometimes raising his hands after getting rid of the ball on option plays, signaling to defenders — and the officials — that he no longer had the ball and couldn’t be hit legally. Steratore said the officials are attempting to make clear to teams and quarterbacks what is expected on such plays.

Redskins were the only team in the league running it heavy from week 1 and 49ers/hawks didnt join in till half way into the season. So if only one team was running it for half the season there was never really any emphasis that needed to be made to the whole league. It was still a new thing. Now that everybodys well aware, more teams are running it, and all these D coordinators talkin about "tee off on the QB". Skins were just asking for some reemphasis

Clay matthews just mad about how Kap embarrassed their defense last year in the playoffs. I really hope the packers d is not dumb enough to just commit to going at Kap every play. Frank Gore will have a field day. Prolly rip 200+ yds or Kaep will just be hitting quick routes to vernon davis or whatever receiver by the hole left behind the DE/OLB

No. Not a running qb. A qb without the ball. Say Kaep hands off to gore. And runs a bootleg fake.

Well if he don't tell the whole world that he doesn't have the ball, Matthews can hit him 20 mins later, in the knee, and not get any flag

What you think bout to happen to all these qbs?
That's called carrying out a fake. If he's "faking" like he has the ball and trying to fool the defense, why shouldn't he be able to be hit? :what:

The rules are the same as they were last year; simply put your hands up or back up out the play and QB is protected. Refs were just re-emphasizing because Harbaugh started whining about clay matthews threats.

The way Cam ran it in the video is how the QB would get killed legally. The way Kaep & RG3 ran it is how the QB does NOT get killed (at least not without a 15 yrd penalty)

So you wanna fake out the D but get mad when they get faked out and hit you? :what: :heh:

But it's a double standard because they make a thousand unnatural rules to protect the white QB's but now they're making rules to actually hurt the black QB's. fukked up, b.

it's getting bigger traction now... just seen them talking bout it on espn and nfl network and here's the latest article from SI.com where they explain it a little more

http://tracking.si.com/2013/09/05/nfl-read-option-quarterbacks-tackled/?sct=nfl_t2_a13

In the video, Blandino explains:

“He is still treated as a runner until he is clearly out of the play,” Blandino said. “The quarterback makes the pitch, he’s still a runner — he can be hit like a runner until he’s clearly out of the play.”

The league believes a running a play specifically designed to keep potential tacklers guessing makes any player who might fake carrying the ball should be fair game.

“The quarterback and the running back, they’re both treated as runners. We don’t know who has the football, we don’t know who’s going to take it, so both players are treated as runners,” Blandino said.

Blandino emphasizes that, while quarterbacks retain the ability to protect themselves by sliding to the ground, they are not granted the same protection while running the read-option.

“The basic concept is, the quarterback position is not defenseless throughout the down. It’s the posture he presents that will dictate his protections,” Blandino said.

Blandino points out that quarterbacks are not fair game for defenders when it’s obvious he no longer has the ball.

“If the quarterback is out of the pocket, he’s clearly out of the play, he cannot be unnecessarily contacted,” Blandino said.

so sliding won't even get you out of being hit... but ONLY if you run the read option... i'll say it again..

i don't have a problem with contact..

i have a problem with college doing this for damn near 100 years and being cool... and the nfl has 5 black qbs get successful on it and completely shyts on the whole program with RULE changes

they said for the entire NFL existance that you can't run the option cause it's much better defense.. it's impossible with the speed of the nfl... they come right in and shut them the fukk up and run it all day to the super bowl and what do they do... change the rules to help the defense out... that's a p*ssy ass move

and to be fair... i'm saying this whole nfl shyt is getting p*ssy

the first video... "although a receiver can have control of the ball and two feet down..... he STILL hasn't had time to protect himself OR AVOID THE TACKLE... so it's a penalty"

whaaaaaaaaaat? i'm trying to hit him hard enough to drop the ball... but no.. i gotta wait for him to catch it first, get control, and be ready for me to hit him??? so he can side step me and dip out.. but if i hit him like ronnie lott so he drops it, 15 yards...

this is all getting to be a little crazy.. about 5 mins in... please don't run the hurry up and snap it too fast.. or we'll call for a do over..

then about the read option... "if he has the running POSTURE...." so if he even looks like he's gonna run, he can be hit low or tackled..

someone describe to me a read option play where the qb doesn't have a running posture? cause isn't that the point

it's all good though.. next year it'll be flag football and no breathing on the opponent.. until then... we taking this championship off GP alone
