I see your point. I'm not too up on the TV ratings/popularity thing, but, ultimately isn't the bottom line money/revenue from a business standpoint? Again, only speculating.

Normally I'd agree with you about the bottom line being most important but not when it comes to overall popularity. That's a pure numbers thing and ratings is the easiest and more accurate way to see those numbers IMO

NFL is definitely the most popular sport and will continue to be. The contact style of play, the parity, the larger number of players to root for, and the organization of games will continue to make it the easiest sport to watch. For a casual fan, it's very hard to keep up with the basketball outside of the playoffs. There is a surplus of "meaningless" regular season games, a lack of parity, and higher rate of human error amongst the refs which keeps causal fans jaded.

Pretty much this

I personally ignore these polls, if you look at the comments in the ESPN section, look at all the cacs celebrating and laughing at the NBA, no comments about the NHL, NFL, or any other sports, its about the "misfortunes" of the NBA. First off the polls ask what your favorite sport is and typically most people who like basketball prefer watching football more so that kind of handicaps the NBA, MLB fans are typically older and has a nostalgic feel for more of their fans leading them to vote for baseball (although I bet many actually are more invested football now), at the end of the day, look at the ratings, since they can track actually viewership now, that tells the real story, MLB World Series viewership was around 14 million (and mind you Boston, a top 3 or 4 market, was in the series), while the NBA Finals was at 17-18 million.

You must be talking about Basketball.:childplease:

I enjoy the game of basketball more than the game of baseball. Not going to front tho, this season I have been very disinterested with the NBA, not sure why but I haven't gone out of my way to watch many games at all. Playoffs tho :whew:

reading the comments on ESPN and here is so fukking bizarre :russ:

I love when people say they enjoy slow paced baseball but don't have the time or patience to watch soccer. Or when they enjoy the NFL's fast pace and physicality but don't like hockey. I mean how do u watch a full nascar race though??? HOW???

Auto racing being so high on the poll should explain everything about this poll. It's like they took this poll at nascar races lol.

Baseball needs stars and they can't get that without steroids and it makes it extremely hilarious that the steroid era players didn't make it to the hall of fame when they helped the sport so much. It's just funny to me.

You have to look at the venues that these sports are played in too. Football stadiums are generally larger than Baseball stadiums, while those same Baseball stadiums hold more people than most Basketball arenas......Yeah people love the action packed football games.....At the same time you have a lot of people attending games at Baseball stadiums across the country for over 100 games per season. They'll never get an exact number on this, but it's easy to see why the numbers might be that way. Some sports are much more fun to watch when you attend the games at the actual venue they're being played in.

Isn't the NFL - the most popular sport - dominated by African-Americans?

glamour positions and power still controlled by whites

in college its the head coaches that matter and they're almost all white

in the NFL its the QB and coach that matter and once again they are also mostly white

if the NFL was like the NBA and all the QBs and coaches were black, its popularity with cac america would plummet
