I think some of you guys are missing the point here. Yes the SuperBowl having marquee halftime show is mutually beneficial but here's where the league has leverage. There's only ONE event like the Super Bowl while there's multiple artist that can do the show. Therefore the SB can and will give preference for those willing to pay. It's no different than what Fifa does when picking a host country except they'd be doing it over the table

This might have worked 15 years ago when people bought albums like crazy. But not now. Tours are really the only way artists get big paydays these days.. and for B level artist shows more than likely are their only payday. And truthfully the Superbowl stage is only for bigtime A level artists. Rhianna, Coldplay, Madonna, Timberlake, Jay Z, etc are already known around the world, why would they have the need to have Goodell in their pockets. Yeah Bruno Mars got a nice bump but he was far from being a struggling artist pre superbowl appearence. Labels are already fully in artists pockets anyway with the 360 deals.. now you want the NFL in your pockets too? And what's the criteria-guidelines for this?

"Any world tours or one-offs at some random theater or nightclub you get is because of your superbowl appearance and we, the NFL, get 20% of your take?"- Goodell.. nobody is f*ckin' with this bullsh*t
