I don't know why folks ran up in this thread defending Nico by saying Luka won't win shyt because he doesn't play defense.

Let's just put aside that talking point being hilariously untrue (y'all the same ones that said Steph and Jokic wouldn't win shyt because they don't defend either). When AD was put in the same situation that Luka was on the Mavs, he only made it out of the 1st round once. He's shown he can't be the #1 option on a legit contender and the chances of him staying healthy enough to make an extensive postseason run dwindle by the year.

He's not even healthy right now.

What the fukk was even y'all argument?!

Bu-bu-but Luka defense.

There's no fukking way Nico was the only force behind the trade. That dumbass MAGA ownership was definitely involved. The dumbass combination of incompetence mixed with far right wing idiocy is way too perfect for that to not happen.
Close but the real culprit is Adam Silver who hasn’t even hidden it really- the trade was Luka for Flagg straight up, AD and anything else were just add ons.

Nico is a dummy regardless but he put an end to the player empowerment aka strongarming franchises to get whatever i want era for good so he’s ok in my book :salute:
Bron and Ja’s recent temper tantrums got no sold by the league office s and Giannis smokescreen had no effect on MKE :banderas:

With that being said idk why this thread is bumped when Luka Doncic STILL hasn’t won a championship- he’s looking like the modern day elgin baylor right now- which is fitting giving his new scenery

Nico has already come out and admitted he was behind it all. He set the wheels in motion long before the new owners even took over (who don’t know shyt about hoops) -
Though Doncic is a generational superstar, Harrison had growing concerns about his conditioning and habits off the court. Doncic would experience significant weight fluctuations throughout a season, a problem the organization attempted to address.
To try and take action, the Mavericks started making changes around Doncic in hopes that they would benefit him and make his conditioning more consistent. Per Tim MacMahon and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the Mavericks fired former director of player health and performance Casey Smith in 2023, and fired strength coach Jeremy Holsopple and manual therapist Casey Spangler after last season—all staffers that Doncic enjoyed working with.
"They get rid of everybody I like," Doncic told an ESPN source.
The Mavericks’ firings did not work. Per ESPN, Doncic wound up hiring his own personal staff before last season, bringing in Slovenian national team strength coach Anže Maček, physiotherapist Javier Barrio Calvo and Real Madrid nutritionist Lucia Almendros. This only increased the frustrations in the Mavericks organization while not improving Doncic's health.
I don’t know what’s this board’s obsession with trying to absolve him of the blame.

What the fukk does Luka not winning a championship have to do with anything?

The Mavs have lost millions in revenue since the trade; alienated the entire fanbase; the player they traded for is perpetually injured and is overweight (funnily enough, the very reasons Nico gave for trading Luka); and now currently have the worst record in the West.

That’s why this thread has been bumped. It’s the worst trade in NBA history.

I am not trying to find excuses for Nico. What I am saying is that these franchise player trades definitely have to be OK'd by the ownership. No way they just gave him a green light to do whatever trade he wants. They probably bought into whatever BS Nico was telling them because somehow someway he's still employed. If I were the Mavs. I would have fired him next day after the trade.

The player they traded for was cooper Flagg, who’s still got an entire career ahead of him- they’re one of the biggest market in the league they’ll get that revenue and fanbase back

Luka was traded because Nico felt like he wasn’t a championship level player after the 24 finals (allegedly…) until Luka wins one and even further until Flagg fully pans out- then we have yet to see if this was the wrong or right decision- even with dallas crashing and burning currently, things change fast in the NBA.

I don’t disagree it’s an awful trade but if Luka leaves LA or ends his career empty handed then it won’t be a big deal at all in the grand scheme

If it was a unilateral decision, Nico woulda been fired after the fan blowback and drop in ticket sales. Why the fukk would billionaires protect Nico :mjlol: People are delusional.
