If this was a problem Nintendo would. But it's not....so what are we talking about?

PS2 was the best selling console of all time and Sony blew through all the money they made from it trying to get the PS3 off the ground. Nobody said "well, Sony should bow out of gaming". But when it's Nintendo people say "they should go 3rd party" in a thread where their stocks have hit a record high. shyt is mind boggling.

The plans can't be that big because if they add a proper battle system why would anybody bother buying the real games? Again we return to the point where you can argue that they don't need to produce hardware at all because if they put their games on platforms lots of people already own we see the result.

Personally I never thought that this game would become popular. I think the whole augmented reality thing is corny. But it's cool that this game is working out great for Nintendo.

The popularity of this does sorta make their handheld line obsolete though. If I were Nintendo why bother making a successor to the 3DS? Mobile gaming is on smartphones now. I don't see the need for a dedicated gaming platform. (hopefully someone can convince me otherwise)

Where did I say Nintendo had a problem. Try reading with the fanboy over emotionalism turned off.
Talking about pure business, and if you can lose the cost of R&D and production from the varoius hardware they support and concentrate just on developing games, you are better off money wise.
As for your analogy, it makes no sense whatsoever, I never said Nintendo should leaving gaming, I said they should leave the hardware side and just become developers.

Sega had gutted their internal studios by the time they left the hardware game, not really the same position that Nintendo is now, with their stronger IPs and internal development groups.

Nintendo makes money off software, at best most use the hardware to push media formats or to breakeven after the initial heavy loses from hardware sales. You know, the razor /razor blades model.

I mean think about it, Nintendo didn't posted losses for 3 years 2012 - 2014, that simply isn't good business, they aren't amazon.

Hell they were taking hits on the 3ds and still are, if not for pokemon go taking off they might be looking bad this year with lower than expected sales from the Wii U and 3ds

Better to make moves when you want to, than be forced to do so IMHO.

It would be cool if Nintendo made a Pokemon MOBA on the PC (like League of Legends and those other popular games). Their IPs are so strong that they can easily dominate other sectors of the gaming market.

you keep moving the goal post. first it was pokemon go is bare bones and offers nothing, to now it's the plans can't be that big pokemon go players would be happy with simple stuff like trading pokemons, new pokemons, a friends list, sharing stuff to facebook or nintendo ID/miiverse. it's not meant to be a full pokemon game, simply a mobile game to play while you're walking or waiting around. two different markets.

as far as not needing to produce hardware, that doesn't make sense for them. nintendo wouldn't be able to expand it's nintendo universe and social platform if they only make games for sony or microsoft. they have too much to give up right now. you nintendo haters keep thinking short term whereas nintendo is pushing their IPs into other markets; pokemon in mobile, talks of zelda being a live-action series produced by netflix, nintendo themed park in japan and collectible figures in amiibo. they can still produce hardware while being a viable company.

People will grow tired of it, it's the internet crowd / smarks crowd, it will be hot for a minute then it will die down. then people will hop over to the next big thing...

The game in its current state has no replay value. Once they add in trading, battling, and other things it will take over the world.
