e3 is important to the gaming industry and until you realize that you don't deserve much of a response from anyone.

They TRIED to downscale e3 before and it was a DISASTER. The whole industry agreed to go back to the way it was.
Nintendo will be at E3 they just won't have a press conference where awkward corporate execs and programmers pace around on a stage back and forth announcing their latest software.

they'll just continue to randomly sprinkle their game announcements around with Nintendo directs
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker
X
Zelda LTTP 2
Super Luigi U
Yoshi's Island 3DS
Mario and Luigi Dream Team
Bravely Default
Donkey Kong Country 3DS
Pokemon X and Y
Mario Kart Wii U
Mario Wii U
Yoshu Wii U

these are all games announced for the first time by Nintendo during Nintendo Directs. do they honestly need to hide all those games till June and save them for E3? i prefer their current way of announcing new titles.

@hexagram :comeon: The thread title is off but gamers would notice.

For me as a Nintendo fan and Wii U owner, its not about them not having a presentation. Like I said E3 is overrated by gamers. Its more about Sessler's statement saying Nintendo is in a bubble.

You have to start asking why Nintendo makes the moves they do.

- How do you completely ignore online gaming last gen?
- How did they sell all those Wiis but had to cut the console life short?
- Why does the WiiU have inferior specs after they banked with the Wii?
- Why has Nintendo still struggled 3rd party support since competitors entered the market?

Everyone loves Nintendo IP's. However, everyone also has a breaking point when dealing with bullshyt that can be avoided. Especially when its the same mistakes over and over.
Nintendo has always been in a bubble. this is the same company that basically gave birth to the Playstation by going back on the CD drive for their system because they wanted to stick with cartridges.

press conferences are important. The people you are trying to attract have other options out there showing off newer and BETTER tech. Nintendo can show Super Mario Bros 3/OoT HD remakes and it wont mean shyt if its just out on the floor away from the average viewers eyes.

YOU HAVE NO LEG TO STAND ON here. GTFOH trying to downplay e3, ESPECIALLY this year.

For the time being, it's good to have some kinda presence at E3, but I doubt it'll be around 5-10 years from now. It's already been restructured and downsized in the last 5-6 years and between '06 and '11 attendance dropped 22%. I dunno how old you guys are but E3 ain't the same as it was back in the day. The internet and similar shows like PAX, CES, SXSW, Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, GDC, etc. make the need for one big industry expo kinda obsolete.

Only Nintendo fans watch Nintendo Directs. Thats the problem and why they need to do an E3 press conference.

There are people who still think the Wii U is just an extra controller for the Wii. You gonna sell them the system by using Nintendo Directs???????

no i think they're gonna sell systems by putting out respectable software. i understand they rushed the Wii U out so it wouldn't get totally steamrolled by the competitors this year. they've sold like 3.5 million units so far. honestly i don't think the Xbox 360 ever really had more than like 8 million or so lead on the PS3.

these new systems will likely be in the $500 range and the install bases will initially be on the smaller side. Nintendo has some time before all hell breaks loose.

Ummmm i think people would notice if there was no presentation from Nintendo. Those presentations are the main thing people focus on at E3. If Nintendo announces a new game during their press conference I, along with many other people would see it because we make sure to watch the conferences. If they announce a game during a Nintendo Direct then i wouldnt see it because i dont watch those. I dont even know when they release.

Also a lot of mainstream press is at the big presentation but they dont walk the floor and go to smaller press events to write about the games. I have never seen CNN show footage from a side press conference but they do it all the time for the huge presentations.

I don't understand why people are so hung up on press conferences. I sat here with The Coli during the 2+ hour Sony PS4 conference and all people could say is "shut the fukk up and show the games".

E3 is about games. Nintendo is showing games. I honestly don't understand the problem. If Nintendo did a large press conference I guarantee people would fast forward through it until they showed games.

I can kinda understand your point of "people watch the conference for game info"....but this is 2013. Any info, hands-on, or video will be posted on every gaming site anyway. Trust me any thing worth while that is there you won't miss out on.

5-10 years I can agree with you there. This year tho? With new hardware coming out? Nintendo is making a big mistake. Nintendo Direct is watched by the same people who collect coins...thats a very small percentage.

I don't even know what the fukk Nintendo Direct is. Whether or not this is a bad move remains to be seen.

If they drop the ball on whatever games they show, then it's a bad move. But a press conference at E3? I don't know about that. If this was '95 or so, I could understand. That would be suicide. But as long as the games they show are good, they should be alright, because that's all anyone cares about.

it seems the publishers and the gamers themselves forgot that. instead of focusing on the games they rather point out sales and rely on celebrity gimmicks. shyt is :scusthov: now.

You're not getting it. Outside of the Wii, there console have been solid but have been lapped because of them being stuck in that bubble.

People talking about not even copping the Wii U for Mario and Smash Bros is not a good thing . They can turn it around but they have to stop the bs.

I'm saying. People act like E3 is the God Show like it's still 1995. Back then it was the spot for gaming info. I remember them big ass EGM issues that were like 300 pages long the month of E3. I still got a few in my closet from '96 or so. If you didn't cop that you were assed out. There was no internet, no Game Trailers, no IGN, no N4G, no 1UP, no Kotaku, none of that shyt.

The industry has been shytting on E3 since around '05 or '06. Journalists don't want to fly out, spend money on a hotel, parking accommodations, then sit through a Sony or Nintendo or MS press conference that is maybe 20 minutes of actual gaming, but it runs 2-3 hours because they got Fallout Boy or Greenday or whoever the fukk to perform with Zachary Levi or a random cast member from "Big Bang Theory" telling corny ass jokes. Get to the mother fukking games already, g.

you guys are getting into the business side of things, but the fact remains is that e3 is still the biggest event. Whether the hardcore crowd (such as ourselves) question whether its as big as its heyday is not the issue here. Its the fact that Nintendo as it usually does, arrogantly makes these moves even with the Wii U selling like shyt. e3 is big enough for Microsoft and Sony to come out swinging, but Nintendo cant hold a press conference to show its latest games? That makes no sense to me.

On top of that? For them to say that Nintendo Direct is the answer when someone like you doesn't even know what it is? That is already a warning sign...you are going to market to....Nintendo fanboys? :why:

How can you possibly grow with that strategy with Sony and Microsoft blasting everywhere against each other? Then again this IS NINTENDO with their ass backwards internet setup on their systems.

Like I said, they're showing games at E3. People act like they're bowing out of it totally.

Why they would need a 2-3 hour press conference, like it's 1995, I dunno. This is especially puzzling since Sony just had a 2+ hour press conference for the PS4 reveal and all this board did was bytch about them wasting time. Nintendo says "we won't have a long ass press conference, we'll just show the new games", and somehow that's a problem too. :wtf:

Them not showing enough games, or shytty games, or not offering journalists enough hands-on time or footage to make an impression....that's gonna be a problem. But a press conference? In 2013? When gaming sites are just gonna cut down the press conference to 2-3 minute bites that feature the game footage anyway? I just don't get it. :yeshrug:
