Think it's gonna be a struggle at that price initially. The PS4 is also coming out with a lot of quality games in the first quarter of 2017 which isn't gonna help. I can see them doing another ambassador program for the early buyers if the thing doesn't fly off the shelves.

The trip part is that even on eBay people are charging 200+ for them still on average. That will probably go down now that the Switch price and date have been announced but might as well just get the Switch. I was close to re-buying the Wii U but decided to wait it out.
This isn't because they don't want to be relevant it's because at a certain level their leadership is incompetent. Not incompetent in the sense that they run the company into the ground but incompetent in that they can't make a product that appeals to the market as a whole.
Nintendo has a dwindling dedicated fanbase they can maintain profitability off of because they're typically smart enough with their manufacturing to sell consoles at a profit and they have enough talent on the software side to make great games. You go look at certain games on the Wii U and almost everyone that has the system has the game. One of the PS4's best selling games is about 9 million sold and the install base is about 53 million. When your install base is so small it's easier to sell a great game to everyone.

Gettin mines for free basically (just traded all my beaten ps4 and Xbox 360 games for it) there was only me and two other dudes at GameStop tho to pre order...def not a good look....they had 30 pre orders to use also (22 black 8 neon bullshyt) so not a good look at all...press conferences are supposed to help sales, not kill them entirely...

Here's Nintendo's dilemma. You keep putting out trash consoles back to back and as they come out and people get 3-4 games in an entire generation that they feel are must own when the next console comes out more and more people just cut their losses and go Man I only really cared for about 4 games on the Wii U and I had it since launch. I'm gonna pass on the next one. At some point people stop caring about what they're missing and the market as a whole becomes apathetic to them.
That's how Nintendo who is a known quantity and one of the largest brands in gaming put out a home console that struggled to pass 13 million in it's life. It wasn't bad marketing or product confusion because at some point it became clear what the Wii U was and people still didn't buy it.
It's like your favorite rapper going commercial to appeal to the masses. His base fanbase looks at him funny and many of them abandon him and the commercial market is trendy and fickle. They might embrace him for a song or two buy they aren't loyal fans and will move on. When they leave and he basically dissed his fans to appeal to them what is he left with?

Don't forget there are more games at Japanese launch and because it's not region-locked you can get those too.
