Don't think this is entirely true. If it is, it isn't exclusive to Black people. Lots of kids get teased for being smart, usually by dumber kids who are headed nowhere fast.
The only time growing up I saw people say someone was acting white is when they were indeed trying to pass themselves off as belonging to the white racial group. That is, hanging exclusively with white kids, avoiding Black kids and Black culture, etc.

I try to read books by authors I disagree with sometimes just to switch it up a little. Seeing different sides of debates is usually a good thing. I didn't really like it but I got through one of Sowell's books so I understand his arguments. McWhorter? FUKK NO! I got about 5 pages in and that shyt was so pretentious and demeaning I couldn't stand it. This has got to be one of the lowest brothers (and I shouldn't even refer to him as such) alive in the country right now. I think this dude generally takes pride in shytting on black people and selling books to Fox viewers.
In terms of the 'acting white' deal, there's a very big difference between a sister developing a valley girl accent and saying things like "OMG, that's like so ghetto" and being smart. Maybe it's just the circles I ran/run in but I don't think I've ever in my life heard someone called 'white' for taking an interest in school. It seems more so than not, it's about attitude and attitude toward fellow blacks that will get you called that.

I got called white by more white people than blacks by far and i'm the smart, nerdy type. I can't really recall a black person calling me white at all. But on the real i dont let things like that slide anymore im not the punk that I use to be.
It's not just an American problem... Many black Canadians try to act hood and force a struggle upon themselves to fit in with the black experience when truthfully it ain't that bad here. I've caught the acting white comment multiple times. Like I should be ashamed of being educated
