Actual numbers taken from Soundscan are posted in this thread for some of these albums.
The label (Priority) eats those costs because they were the distributors. So P ended up owing them because it cost them. Their 15-20% came from being distributors which was making sure albums were on shelves.
You don't get it. A cerification doesn't mean that is the date they shipped additional copies to the stores. It also doesn't mean they shipped an additional 1 million stores on THAT date. That certification date is that date that it was certified that a total of 3 million copies had been shipped since the original release date of the album. They may have only shipped a few hundred thousand of the re-release. Who knows?
