With Gucci it's less about whether he does it best as it is the fact that he did it first.
As the article noted, his style really did predicate today's rap music. Everyone from the obvious Keefs and OG Macos to the Drakes has taken a page out of his book.
I've no doubt in my mind he's the most influential of the last decade. Kanye's influence waned heavily circa 2010, with his Dark Fantasy album. Whereas Gucci's work up to that point held its own and is being reexamined today, and his work beyond that point (Trap God 1 and on to he exact) brought a whole new flavor to the trap sound that is essentially the standard today. All the heavyweight ATL producers have attested to this by the way; TM-88, Mike Will and of course Zaytoven all credit the rise and success of their sound to Gucci.

How did Gucci create something that existed before he even he existed? T.I. didn't even create Trap music, he coined the term, gave it an identity, and brought it to the mainstream. Gucci doing this since day one is neither here or there since his day one is still after T.I. came out with Trap Muzik.

Someone from Noisey, which is an arm of Vice. I've noticed The Booth has mixed feelings about Vice for some reason, but as far as I can tell, they keep it real.
That ATL series they had was dope as fukk.
The way you know it today has no bearing on what I'm talking about. Know your history. Rap today sounds nothing like it did in the early '00's, '90's, and the 80's, but you can't just discredit the albums and artists who pioneered the styles and sounds that made it possible for the sound today to even exist.

This entire thread is about Gucci's influence from 05 until today. As for giving credit where it's due, no one is against that either.. But it's a very long stretch to say TI, let alone anyone who came and went prior has had a direct influence on the way today's music sounds.
Where Gucci drew his influence from is a different story, and probably closer to what you're talking about.
What it sounds like today wouldn't be possible without T.I. though. That's the point. That doesn't negate Gucci's influence. In fact, I'd even agree that Gucci has more influence on the sub-genre than T.I. What's inaccurate though is saying Gucci "created" or started it.
Gucci Mane is responsible for all the watered down shyt with autotune trap rappers and non existent bars.
