If this shyt is a legit threat, like this psycho can reach mainland US with a nuclear armed missile, then I don't see any other option but a military action asap. I'm sure there are already plans if this situation ever materialized.

The entire point of getting nukes is to protect oneself from regime change prompted by a hostile foreign power. There's no incentive for actually using a nuke, Kim isn't that stupid, it's merely for deterrence.

The US plan regarding North Korea thus far has been to underestimate their capabilities and be surprised when they demonstrate they're further along than intel suggested.

It was a solution based on your hypothetical. A ridiculous one at that, as the deaths of hundreds of thousands of our allies' civilians in South Korea, Japan, etc would most definitely follow any kind of military action. Not to mention potential open conflict with the Chinese.

There is nothing to be done here but prolonged negotiation and stalemate. There needs to be an acceptance that regime change is not feasible and the rhetoric needs to be toned back significantly.
