their pay would be going to just them. the football team is part of the company not the company. that department is just one that sometimes makes the most money. but the money is still spread to other departments.

If colleges want to remain competitive, they will funnel money into player salaries when players are eligible to get paid. Those colleges with the highest salaries will win :yeshrug:

If colleges want to pay the male lacrosse team the same amount of money as the football team, they will rack in less talent as players gravitate to higher salaries at rival institutions.

Literally millions of teenagers are able to afford college because of athletic scholarships breh. How can you generalize their degrees' worth?

nah millions of cac teenagers. Be specific. Basketball and football players should have to subsidize womens tennis. If womens tennis can make a profit it should be cut. That's the way it works in the real world.

are these dudes even asking to be paid, sounds more like they want better protection from the hazardous nature of the game mostly and a few other perks.

I think more than anything they just want benefits and say a little profit sharing....say that the players get 2 % of the revenue the team generates...

And also they probably want to do away with the wait 3 years to turn pro and the sit out a year if you transfer...

Anyone saying that "they get a scholarship to go to school"...that scholarship is contingent of them staying on the team...dude blows his knee out his freshman year and is out for the season...that scholarship gets yanked breh...

I can't see how anyone can be opposed to this...I mean look at the NCAA business model...they are a multi Billion dollar industry, built on the backs of kids that they don't have to compensate for their work at all...and if any one little thing goes wrong, they can just replace said kid with another one with not a soul thinking a thing of it

But in the real world we have amendments such as Title IX.

Title IX doesn't have bearing with respects to a court's ruling on whether athletes' work consists o work and whether they must be paid as such. I don't see why there's any compulsion to pay females the same as men when females don't do the same work and bring in the same earnings.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
I wish people knew how ridiculous they looked and sounded trying to justify an obviously immoral, corrupt and absurdly exploitative institution such as the NCAA under the guise of "fairness" -- which really translates to, "Yeah, they system is exploitative, but I like watching it. So... :manny:." People aren't shyt. :snoop:

If you don't believe in the value of an education, don't attend an educational institution.

The option will always be there to go somewhere else to showcase your talents for pay (with the exception of football), but who wants to give up that kind of spotlight?

Arguing for this utopian minor league system where players get paid is like arguing for a Dipset reunion: sure it sounds nice in theory, but when the time comes will you care enough for it to mean anything?

The only way to get to the prod Is though the NBA and NFL free minor league system (college sports)

since when do people willingly sign up for oppression? :heh: lets sacrifice thousands for 20-30 makes sense.

You're wrong

The money that sports make is not legally bound to any type of budget

That money can be spent on anything the college president pleases

so walk ons wouldnt be able to get paid?

He notes that Ohr didn’t give Northwestern’s walk-on players the right to unionize. That follows from Ohr’s thinking that accepting a scholarship is what makes a player an “employee,” but it creates an odd distinction between two classes of player. “Can you have a different rule for those two guys?” Estreicher said. “I don’t think so.”

Sure looks like a lot of profit. The money can be spent on whatever they want to spend it on a lot of time its used to help pay the expenses of all the other sports.

the post you quoted said nothing of money being earmarked for anywhere

You are claiming that the money is being used for a greater good when there is no proof of that and like that excuses the absurd model of the people making the money not getting paid.

You only pulled the football list, I'm referring to athletic departments. But I'm sure most of these athletic departments could be scaled back anyways...there's just layers and layers of made up positions for people....a lot of these big schools are built a lot like our government. If they were actually forced to budget(pay players for the big sports) things would run a lot differently..

this is the most updated list I could find...http://espn.go.com/ncaa/revenue

football is making all the revenue but it is being spent on bloated athletic departments, irrelevant sports and loads of other bullshyt.

That football revenue should be spent on the labor thats making the money

If they can figure out a way to do it....I wouldn't have a problem with it. Telling the athletes who won't make money "tough luck" though is just setting yourself up for more issues though imo. I don't see a solution.
