The NCAA is a joke but big picture is what y'all fail to look at. If athletes demand they be paid, which I imagine they will, why would a school decide to pay all those kids when usually only a few sports generate revenue and fund all the other sports? Why pay those athletes and spend money on those sports?
They shouldn't be

College is a business.

They should get rid of the segments that are not making them money

I don't understand what your points have to do with players not getting paid?

Everything you say is only natural my g. Why would an academic institution invest large money in athletics, if they weren't bringing money in??? The questions answer themselves and only further highlight the absurdity of the entire system. Let it burn.

You guys think that Title IX will let this happen??? 90% of schools will end up dropping sports altogether. College football will be WNBA status as far as the number of teams participating.

All of these issues (paying college players, age limits) could be solved with just a little bit of logic, consistency, and fairness. If you wanna say scholarships equal payment that's one thing however to limit a players ability to make money off of their own likeness all the while using their likenesses to pump even more money into your pockets is straight pimping. If you just let dudes eat while in school a lot of these issues go away. Guys wouldn't be in such rush to jump to the next level if they could eat in college. As far as the guys who wouldn't be able to get endorsement money...:manny: tough break nikka. If you aren't able to snag an endorsement and your jersey/t-shirt sells aren't bringing any money in either then you need to be happy with your free education that the great majority of your classmates does not have the benefit of.

It's not football or basketball players job to worry about funding volleyball or wrestling or archery. Either college sports is big business or it's not. You can't make billions with a "B" off the backs of certain athletes and then turnaround and treat them like everybody else in the name of amatuerism or fairness. Nobody has a right to a college scholarship. In all honesty the idea of giving scholarships in categories where you can't attain a degree is stupid when you think about it

If college athletics as we know it has to completely be tore down, it will only be because of the greed and exploitation that has gone on until now. It's a hypocritical and corrupt system, bottom line.

The argument that thousands of other kids will lose their opportunity at an education isn't even really an issue that's in play. That's some side shyt that will occur as a result of reorganizing a broken system. There were slaves who didn't want to leave the plantation because they preferred that to the unknown world of freedom... :manny:

Also, when did you guys suddenly become a champion of education for athletes?? At a time when the real world worth of a college degree is at it's lowest, yet it's cost is at the highest, you dudes are suddenly championing an "education." I'm not going to totally slander higher learning, but let's not over state the value of a degree in sociology or some other liberal arts degree that has very little real world value. If there's one thing the workforce is not in need of, it's more kids with dubious liberal arts degrees.
If you don't believe in the value of an education, don't attend an educational institution.

The option will always be there to go somewhere else to showcase your talents for pay (with the exception of football), but who wants to give up that kind of spotlight?

Arguing for this utopian minor league system where players get paid is like arguing for a Dipset reunion: sure it sounds nice in theory, but when the time comes will you care enough for it to mean anything?

So fukk providing educations to thousands of kids who have unique talents. Guess you're against band scholarships too. Those kids use their talents to get an education. It shouldn't be cut or the possibility of being cut because a few guys who shouldn't even be In school want to get paid.

Not really

The idea that people think an institution for education needs athletics as avenue to education is crazy to me.

College sports serves no purpose other than to make coaches and colleges rich

I dont know of many rich college coaches- other than at least mid tier division 1 football or mens basketball.

Then football's always the first to go.

Football is like a sitcom in 2014. If you have a great one, you'll spend to keep it. Otherwise it's too much to produce and you'll drop it favor of keeping something cheaper.

You're missing the point.

Band and the likes are being paid compensated fairly for their abilities

The football team is not.

Also the people that get the schollies for their "talent" aren't even 1% of a school population

I don't understand why you're using the exceptions to prove a point.

They are getting paid based on the results that they don't control and the ones who do control the outcome get nothing

It's pretty apparent that college football probably shouldn't exist period

But both the NCAA and the NFL are in collusion to keep there free minor league system alive
