I'm saying that now you're putting a monetary value on how much you're worth to a team in college.
Won't they be doing that once they are in the league anyway? Well at least once you get to your second contract thanks to the rookie scale

Exactly.

shyt, they have zero value right now.
I had this debate on another board a few yrs back and I used Tebow as an example (as much as I don't like him). Look at the millions he generated for the university from jersey sales, Tebow postcards, ticket sales, autograph memorabilia, fund raising, booster donations, bowl appearances and if you want to stretch it out further, coaches salaries. Without him, Mullen ain't getting a $2.5 mil per year salary from Miss St. Then the boost in pay to ADs for the programs being in charge and the programs being successful. Hate the comparison, but, this is the greatest hustle of free labor since slavery. shyt, FSU is doing it now with the Gawd Jameis. Wasn't even a week after the Clemson when you could purchase nike apparel with "Do It Big" in big letters on tees

i want to see if schools are going to be willing to keep the nonprofit sports if they do end up having to pay athletes. it's so many kids who go through school and earn their degree off that athletic scholly, but this could doom all those kids. which would be very unfortunate but we'll see i guess
exactly. LOL @ everyone clamoring for the few hundred kids in college athletics that are getting reamed to be able to get something (like they arent already getting shyt under the table anyways) while not giving a flying fukk about the tens of thousands of kids across the country that wouldnt be getting a degree if it wasnt for their athletic scholarship to a lesser sport. fukk those kids i guess

Separate Div 1A from the rest then. There's gotta be a way to do both.

if it gets to the point where players are going to get paid from the schools, the vast majority of schools will just cease having an athletics department. ive always said players should be able to get paid from other means (boosters, endorsements etc), but the i dont think the schools should be responsible for it. id MUCH rather have it as is, than to take away the chance at an education for tens of thousands in order to pay johnny football a salary

If college athletics as we know it has to completely be tore down, it will only be because of the greed and exploitation that has gone on until now. It's a hypocritical and corrupt system, bottom line.

The argument that thousands of other kids will lose their opportunity at an education isn't even really an issue that's in play. That's some side shyt that will occur as a result of reorganizing a broken system. There were slaves who didn't want to leave the plantation because they preferred that to the unknown world of freedom... :manny:

Also, when did you guys suddenly become a champion of education for athletes?? At a time when the real world worth of a college degree is at it's lowest, yet it's cost is at the highest, you dudes are suddenly championing an "education." I'm not going to totally slander higher learning, but let's not over state the value of a degree in sociology or some other liberal arts degree that has very little real world value. If there's one thing the workforce is not in need of, it's more kids with dubious liberal arts degrees.

Literally millions of teenagers are able to afford college because of athletic scholarships breh. How can you generalize their degrees' worth?

They act like those kids don't exist. They think in terms of the 20-30 guys they see not the thousands they don't. I'm willing to bet other sports have higher graduation rates and higher gpas than the basketball and football team. They use their scholarships and it means something to those cats.

I'm not for a system that exploits some kids so some other kids can get a free ride, while in the meantime the rich get richer. This really isn't about kids getting scholarships. It's more a basic question of compensating those whose labor generates wealth, the entire system got too big for itself, and the whole idea of "amateurism" makes no sense in an environment with so much commercial activity. The NCAA is a complete joke.

The NCAA is a joke but big picture is what y'all fail to look at. If athletes demand they be paid, which I imagine they will, why would a school decide to pay all those kids when usually only a few sports generate revenue and fund all the other sports? Why pay those athletes and spend money on those sports?

Giving academic scholarship for sports is absurd anyway.

These kids will just have to borrow for college illegal normal kids

Never mind the fact that a majority of football players couldn't even qualify for college and are being shoe horned into majors that lol after them
