wemby was better in nearly every category. Gobert was just playing on a better team. Wemby was the better defensive player....for an award that singles out the best defensive player....but the team's success is massively taken into account

It's not just the general team success, it's the fact that the Timberwolves had the #1 defense in the NBA and the Spurs had the #22 defense.


I'd bet you anything that no player in NBA history has won DPOY while his team was fielding the 22nd-best defense in the league. Even if you blame his teammates for that.
