Top 10.

I would love to see how he would matched up against players like Jordan, Drexler, Miller and Teams like Detroit with Isiah. He got a taste right here.

I am no Laker stan by ANY means. In fact, I've largely disliked them until the Clippers got good, now I'm just neutral to them ...

But not counting any active player, and going solely on players whose careers I have followed on some level since their first day in the league... Kobe Bryant is currently the best player I have ever seen based on this criteria.

I am not saying he was better than Jordan. I'm not saying he was better than Bird, Shaq, Kareem, Wilt, whatever. When I got into basketball they were already established as greatness or retired.

What I am saying, is that from the group of players whose careers I have been aware of since their first professional game, Kobe Bryant is the best player I have ever seen and it will remain as such until the LeBrons/Durants of the world retire. Then I will revisit it.

In general, though, he's top 5-10 in my book.

He's top 10. Cant put him above jordan tho. Michael jordan is simply the best ever and possibly will never be surpassed.

Kobe is probably just outside the top 10, nothing he could do this year could make him go up or down.

Top 4-7 based on career accomplishments(MVP's and other media-given popularity contests that technically don't mean shyt)

In terms of pure skill and based on what I saw with my own eyes, however - The GOAT.

I've never seen a player more complete/skilled than The Black Mamba, and believe me I've studied as much of the greats as possible.

And his mental toughness, sheer will, determination, and high threshold for pain was second to none. Last night's game put the final stamp on that.

I think it did that for both sides. They were feeding him the ball to celebrate him, not because it was the best chance of scoring. They scored about as well as they usually do, the shots just came almost exclusively from Kobe.

The game really told you all you needed to know about that shot attempt to scoring correlation that you stans don't like to acknowledge. As bad and inefficient as Kobe was this year, even he can put up big numbers with unlimited shots.

Kobe was not more complete or skilled than Kareem. Nobody was.

Somewhere in the 4-8 range seems like the realistic answer to me. It's almost impossible to rank everyone when you get into that range imo.

I can't see how anyone would rank him above MJ, Kareem or Wilt though.
