5 is currently the best GTA game, that is undisputable, now you may say that 3, Vice City, San Andreas or any other GTA game had a better story than 5, or had better characters, but that doesn't constitute to it being a better "game", nor does the setting. Gameplay, mechanics, features in 5 > than any other GTA game. Now if you wanted to talk about "settings", "story" and "characters" then the post should have been framed around those specifics.

I played SA again after beating V and can honestly say it's the nostalgia factor & setting that makes people think it's better
If GTA V took place in the 90s San Andreas would be laughed at
The story is barely cohesive, the ending isn't very satisfactory, the combat & aiming system are fukking terrible
Only things I'd give San Andreas over V is setting & soundtrack. Dead ass. (Maybe add characters too, although Most were forgettable)
Some might prefer the setting of a different game but that doesn't make it better
I think the skyrim medieval type setting is better than fallout 3's futuristic/50s bullshyt but I think fallout is a better game by far
